"Tune Up The Volume For Nick Adams"

“I had a dream, I can make it, pass first class as I’m flying through space, looking through my side glass. People try to play me but I can’t hear them though. Playing director, my life is like a movie role. Lights. Camera. Action.” –Nick “Tunez” Adams.

Born on Independence Day, Virginia native and rapper, Nick Adams, also known as Tunez, was brought into this world with a natural talent to spit rhymes. Unless you have been living under a rock, most know Adams from his open mike performances every Thursday night held in Mondo’s Sub Shop, here on campus. For the past few shows Adams has tagged teamed with senior, Jon Blanks as they performed impressive songs together, taking turns in the spot light.

“Jon came up to me after my first open mike and asked if he could record some stuff in my studio and I said yes. Really, if it has anything to do with music I won’t turn it down. Jon asked me for a few tips on how to get better at rapping. I admired his work ethics. He knows where he is, where he wants to be and he is willing to work to get there. As a group, no, we are just two solo artists; we both do our own thing. He works really hard and that is why I continue to work with him. Anyone can want to be a rapper until they get criticized and don’t want to do it anymore,” said Adams.

Adams has spent 10 years as a rapper, thanks to his father who introduced him to Biggie Smalls as a kid. His dad helped him write songs his first year, but once he started writing his own music it was history from there. Adams has done a lot of shows, whether it is solo, with a group of friends or in his band G4 Gang, which consists of himself, rappers Tizzy T, Money Williams, Proda-J, and singer B-Smoove. Adams has also rapped in Apollo-Styled rap shows and won, he has been the main act for multiple shows, and has even opened up for R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan.

A lot of people enjoy Adams because he brings his own style to the table when he performs. “My style consists of rugged, urban, country, mixed kid, who doesn’t look like he can rap.” Although he has his loyal fans every rapper no matter how famous runs into people that doubt at first glance. “I come from a really country town, where everyone listens to country music. It always feels good because when I show up somewhere new, people ask me what I do and I say I am a rapper, and their reaction is generally ‘no really, what do you do,’ so I get up there and I rap and they like what they hear. It makes me want to continue to prove people wrong and keep writing. There isn’t anything that I have rapped about that I haven’t gone through ” said Adams.

Bio

My music is a mixture of all the hip hop you hear today. I mix radio, underground, and soul music into one package. My main influence is life. Living life gives you so much to write about if everything you write is from real life occurances. Ive always had a major fan base in my town, and it continues to grow as I travel to do shows and promote. Everytime I have performed I have been asked to do another at a later date. The difference between me and everyone else I have met, is that I can feel the difference in the passion for music. Every since I started rapping I knew I could make it in the industry if I i pushed hard enough. There has never been a second where I doubted it. I work hard to make my dreams become reality, and wont rest until it is true.
