"It's like Jamiroquai would sound if he hadn't lost his soul!" - FLY. "Tuomo delivers an album of true depth, heartfelt lyricism and more than dozen future classics. It's my thing for sure." - STRAIGHT NO CHASER

Biography

Tuomo (born as Tuomo Prättälä, 1979). Soul-singer, jazz pianist, composer, lyricist and producer. Tuomo began taking piano lessons at the age of 7.

Nicknamed as "The Duracel Bunny" by Finnish media, Tuomo has contributed in dozen full-length albums in 7 different line-ups during last eight years. Together with his various bands he was nominated for Jazz Emma Award for 4 times, won 2 international jazz contests, received the highly-acclaimed Finnish Teosto Award, was The Young Artist of the Year chosen by Finland Festivals and toured intensively all around the world.

In January 2007 Tuomo released his first solo album titled “My Thing”, which immediatelly hit Finnish Top 10 and received only rave 5-star, 4-star reviews. “My Thing” is singer-songwriter music based strongly on 70s soul heritage and Tuomo's brilliant songwriting and productions skills - not to mention his awesome musicianship - were instantly recognized.

Mr. Gilles Peterson, the most famous and influential DJ and broadcaster in the world, has been a big fan of Tuomo’s since the first single “Don’t take it too hard” saw daylight. The song was included in Gilles’ MySpace player for quite a while. In Gilles' worldwide show "Winners of 2007" Tuomo's "My Thing" was chocen as number 17 in best albums of the year. German Jazzthing magazine put Tuomo on position #4 on their list of best albums in 2007.

The album gave Tuomo Emma Award (Finnish Grammy) for Best R&B Album, Emma Nomination for Best Male Artist, Rhythm Femma (Indie Emma) Award, The Funk Award for Best Album and The Sony Jazz Prize to name but a few. The sales reached gold status in Finland (15,000 copies).

In Japan, the single reached number 5 on J-Wave’s Tokyo Hot 100 Chart and it still continues to be on many radio stations' playlists.

In 2008, Tuomo recorded new material for his second album "Tuomo Reaches Out For You" which was released in Finland in February 2009. The new album took a little step out of the funkiest outfit that was heard on "My Thing". Despite or because of that the album was - again - welcomed with mere amazement. If Tuomo was compared to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye after "My Thing", now people used more names like Jamiroquai and Lenny Kravitz...

Tuomo's 3rd album "My Own Private Sunday" was released in January 2010. It kind of ends Tuomo's trilogy, as the album includes songs Tuomo was "too embarrased to include on either of the first two". So he takes a more personal approach. In addition to this, Tuomo also played all the instruments himself.

Tuomo's remarkable trilogy of fine albums is now done. The journey has just begun.

Don't Take It Too Hard

Written By: Tuomo

Young girl, I know you're sad
'cause it didn't work out for you
the way you expected
and now you've got to start a new
I know what you're thinking,
you know I've been lonely too
I can offer these words of consolation
when you think you can't make it through

Don't take it too hard
There's a future for you I promise
It's not the end of your world
'cause we've all got our problems
we can get by, oh yes we can

Young man, you're down and out,
your rent is overdue
You've got no money, You've got no job,
boy, you ain't got a clue
Don't give up on your dreams
'cause it all depends on you
if you keep working night and day
you know they will come true, yeah

Don't take it too hard
Just look over your shoulder brother
You know I will be there
'cause we've all got our problems

We can get by, yes we can, if we try
we can get by, we can
if we work together, come on now

Young man you know you're not alone
Young girl you know you've got your home
Young people around the world
get together, every boy and girl
share your sweet consolation when you think you can't make it through

Don't take it too hard
Happiness is around the corner
and joy lives down the street
there's a world out there
waiting for your call
so what are you waiting for?
What are you waiting for?
'cause we've all got our problems
we can get by, yes we can now
Let me show you how, come on!

Ballroom Girl

Written By: Tuomo

Put your best dress on,
we're going out to dance tonight
Get it on with me, don't look so surprised
'Cause I've been waiting for this moment
ever since I was a little boy
I remember fantisizing, playing with my only toy

So won't you be my ballroom girl tonight,
It don't matter that you're so much older
come on, don't be shy, turn on the light
I want to see you do the cha-cha-cha all night
Won't you be my ballroom girl tonight
girl you've got the steps I like to follow,
do the tango 'til we're satisfied
teach me how to live,
teach me how to love
all night, all right

You know the girls my age,
they ain't got nothing on you,
they've got a pretty face, no personality, it's true
I can see it in your eyes that you're experienced
beyond compare
So save me from this, baby,
you know you drive me crazy
sometimes I feel like giving up

But won't you be my ballroom girl tonight,
It don't matter that you're so much older
come on, don't be shy, turn on the light
I want to see you do the cha-cha-cha all night
Won't you be my ballroom girl tonight
girl you've got the steps I like to follow,
do the tango 'til we're satisfied
teach me how to live,
teach me how to love
all night, oow
you can teach me baby, yeah!

Take it down for me...

Take your best dress off,
girl we're staying in tonight
Let's get it on again
and I know you ain't surprised this time
'Cause I've been waiting for this moment
since last week
and I'm growing tired of waiting, yeah
So save me once again, be my toy,
I'll be your baby boy,
you can fill my world with joy

If you'll be my ballroom girl tonight,
It don't matter that you're so much older
come on, don't be shy, turn off the light
I want to see you do the cha-cha-cha in the dark
Won't you be my ballroom girl tonight
girl you've got the steps I like to follow,
do the tango 'til we're satisfied
teach me how to love,
teach me how to live,
teach me how to love you right

Oh, we'll do it all night, come on,
I know you're satisfied when
I hear you calling out my name,
say it out loud, once more, now turn around, we're gonna do it again and when you go to work in the morning you'll be red-eyed and all your students will be wondering what's been going down...

My Thing

Written By: Tuomo

I tried to write it,
I tried to write in a song
how I feel about our situation
I tried to make it all better,
'cause talking about it
only seemed to add to the frustration
But it took me so long to get it all out,
that I lost it along the way
Our position keeps changing
and I can't keep up
and keep rewriting it everyday

Just let me do my thing
give me a song and let me sing
Just let me do my thing
let someone else do the worrying
Just let me do my thing
And I won't be sad no more
if you let me do it, baby!

"Just keep your focus,
don't be distracted by everything
you say that you don't care about"
But I can't help myself,
sometimes I look around me and
I just want to shout, baby yeah!
Who am I singing this for?
Do they really want to hear?
Do I have to explain it?
Why won't they just let me do my thing?

Just let me do my thing
give me a song and let me sing
Just let me do my thing
let someone else do the worrying
Just let me do my thing
I won't be sad no more
if you let me do it, baby!

Let me do it to you now...

26

Written By: Tuomo

No need to act surprised when I say
that I'm aware of how you wonder everyday
of what it is that makes you want to go away
when there really is no reason for you not to stay

See, I know that there are things in your past
that you have to deal with
and I know you thought these wounds
they would heal with time
but it turns out they're much harded
than you thought that they would be
and you feel it oh so deep
every time you look at me

But if you stay by my side
then one day when we've grown older
you'll look at me and smile
and you'll say:

"Do you remember back when we were 26?
I used to feel like I was so much older.
Do you remember
how I used to reminisce,
and look back on what I should have done,
isn't that absurd?"

So I'm asking you to reconsider
Think of all the good times that we have had
Open up your heart,
let all the pain pour out
and when you're through with tears
I will still be here

And if you stay by my side
then one day when we've grown older
you'll look at me and smile
and you'll say:

"Do you remember back when we were 26?
I used to feel like I was so much older.
Do you remember
how I used to reminisce,
and look back on what I should have done,
isn't that absurd?

And now that I'm older,
I feel much younger than back then,
and somehow it seems my soul's at ease,
I know that there's still a day to seize,
a day to seize."

True Friend

Written By: Tuomo

How many times did I forgive you
thinking it was my duty as your friend
But now I've come to realize
if I just keep forgiving it's never gonna end

When you hurt everyone that loves you
keep us hanging by a thread
You put us down when we're not around
you've got to change
and I'm tired of blaming myself

See, I'm not a true friend to you
if I don't get mad at you
for doing the things you do
that hurt everybody so
And I just can't stand aside
and you don't seem to realize
that you're destroying yourself
and everything around you

We've all grown so used to your bad moods
we don't even bother asking you what's wrong
but tonight I won't let you walk away
you're gonna have to stay and explain
what's eating you
come on open up now
that's what I'm here for

See, I'm not a true friend to you
if I don't get mad at you
for doing the things you do
that hurt everybody so
And I just can't stand aside
and you don't seem to realize
that you're destroying yourself
and everything around you

Ordinary

Written By: Tuomo

What happens if I fail
what if I succeed
what if I have no faith
what if I believe, what if I believe?

What if I'm selfish
what if I am vain
what if I am helpless
what if I am plain, what if I am plain?

I bet you thought you knew me
well, what did you expect?
Now you're looking through me
the secret that I've kept
for so many years trying to hide
that I'm just ordinary

So what if you accept me
take me as I am
what if you respect me
what if I'm your man, what I'm your man?

Will it make me happy
will it make me whole
will it save my life
will it save my soul, will it save my soul?

I bet you thought you knew me
well, what did you expect?
Now you're looking through me
the secret that I've kept
for so many years trying to hide
I'm just ordinary

So what if you accept me
take me as I am
what if you respect me
what if I'm your man, what I'm your man?

Will it make me happy
will it make me whole
will it save my life
will it save my soul, will it save my soul?

I bet you thought you knew me
well, what did you expect?
Now you're looking through me
the secret that I've kept
for so many years trying to hide
that I'm just ordinary
