Tupelo Honey

“Who the hell is Tupelo Honey, and where can I get their album?!” This seems to be the question on the minds of all those who have heard this exciting new band out of Edmonton, Alberta. Their career has been nothing short of a full out assault on the Alberta music scene, captivating audiences wherever they perform.

Almost seeming to have emerged from the shadows, Tupelo Honey debuted their live show to a crowd of 5,000 screaming fans at Stage 13 in Camrose, Alberta. Playing immediately after Our Lady Peace, the band didn’t miss a beat in delivering an intense and larger-then-life rock show to the thousands of people braving the rain to hear this new band. From there Tupelo Honey has gone on to play NAIT’s Ookfest, sharing a bill with bands such as The Tea Party, Wide Mouth Mason, and American Hi-Fi, as well as performing at Red’s, The Urban Lounge, the University of Alberta’s “Powerplant”, and opening for Sony recording artists “Kazzer” at SAIT in Calgary. The band’s first released single “Feel” has received regular airplay on Edmonton radio station 100.3 the BEAR, as well as being performed live on A-Channel’s “Big Breakfast”.

Tupelo Honey is a unique clan of musicians. With an average age of 23, the band possesses a musical maturity far beyond their years; all having extremely diverse musical backgrounds, yet sharing a collective goal to forge a new and exciting sound in the world of rock music. The band was conceived in February 2003, consisting of Matthew Landry on vocals, Steve Vincent on bass, Daniel Davidson and Tyler Dianocky on guitars, and Greg Williamson on drums. There is an uncommon chemistry among this troupe; each member’s sound compliments the next so perfectly. With Landry’s powerful yet angelic voice, the sonic interplay of the guitarists, and the dynamic precision of the rhythm section, Tupelo Honey stands out as fresh new sound in the rock world.

One unique aspect of the band is the fact that there is no principal songwriter. Each member of the band is as important as the next in their creative process, all assuming the roles of songwriter, arranger and musician. This coupled with the extremely wide variety of musical influences and experiences among this group of players, gives the band an almost boundless pool of song-writing creativity and a sound all of their own.

To date, Tupelo Honey has played some very impressive venues, created a large fan base, and most importantly have created some incredible music. This young band is growing extremely fast, not missing a beat when given the opportunity to step up to the plate and rock the big crowds. But with so much happening around the band, Tupelo Honey remains focused on the music, working relentlessly on material for their debut album. In an industry saturated with gimmicks and imitators, Tupelo Honey stands poised as band ready to take the world of rock music to that elusive next level.
