Unwise

Written By: Barry Hutchinson

Step outside, morning dew
Newspaper rubber band, my day is new.
Front page news ain't worth reading
I step back inside, pour myself a brew.

Church bells chime, more than a few
There's mothers weeping there and fathers too.
The price of freedom's been paid, and in their caskets laid
For whom this bell tolls, I never knew.

Hey, I feel a rise in decisions made unwise
And like pawns they're compromised
But that fire's still in their eyes.
They do not ask they do this job
Complex politics they cannot resolve
For whom this bell tolls, I never knew.

Now politicians, oh they debate
They pontificate and verbally masturbate.
While they wag their tongues, air of freedom deep in their lungs
Another hero falls unsung.

Hey, I feel a rise in decisions made unwise
And like pawns they're compromised
But that fire's still in their eyes.
They do not ask they do this job
Complex politics they cannot resolve
For whom this bell tolls, I never knew.

They say the world's full of evil, I guess it's true
And on the sword of freedom fall the proud and the not so few.
I try to make sense of it all, I'm caught in this goddamn political squall
But for whom this bell tolls, I never knew.

Hey, I feel a rise in decisions made unwise
And like pawns they're compromised
But that fire's still in their eyes.
They do not ask they do this job
Complex politics they cannot resolve
For whom this bell tolls, I never knew.

Hard Evidence

Written By: Barry Hutchinson

It was back breaking work, but there were five mouths to feed
That's a whole lot of hope riding on a truckload of seed
Sometimes you pray for rain, sometimes you pray for dry
Just ain't no way to know what's gonna come from that sky.

See a grown man's tears, watch him pour out his heart
Ain't no amount of praying gonna change the way things are
How long can you keep your faith without hard evidence
How long can you tell yourself this all still makes sense.

It's tough to see a bright side when your fields are a bust
Even your soul gets hungry after a day of eating dust
At best your faith is shaky, but most time it's gone
It's easier to pretend than to scare the hell out of everyone.

See a grown man's tears, watch him pour out his heart
Ain't no amount of praying gonna change the way things are
How long can you keep your faith without hard evidence
How long can you tell yourself this all still makes sense.

You thought you'd feel lost but somehow you feel free
And now you understand the difference in religion and spirituality
Your faith fades like daylight until you no longer believe
But every now and then you find yourself down on your knees

See a grown man's tears, watch him pour out his heart
Ain't no amount of praying gonna change the way things are
How long can you keep your faith without hard evidence
How long can you tell yourself this all still makes sense.
