"'Everything Is Ok' CD Review"

Toronto's Turn Off The Stars are doing well for themselves. As of this writing they are on tour with Colin James and they have a new album out on Curve Music.

The album "Everything Is Ok" is comprised of eight melodic modern pop/ rock tunes. I would describe Turn Off The Stars sound as a mix of Coldplay , 40 Foot Echo and Matthew Good. The eight tunes here are all slick, polished and radio ready. T.O.T.S would fit right in on modern rock stations playlists so don't be surprised if you hear these guys sometime soon.

The album is extremely melodic and well produced. The disc's opening track "Please" makes equal use of moody keyboards and falsetto wails. "Falling Into You" contains some really great slide riffs while "Oblivious" prefers to pull at your heartstrings with a sparse but effective piano line and those are just the first three songs ! Check out this album if you are a fan of the bands mentioned above . It wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear them next to any of those artists in the near future. If you're not a fan of Matt Good and company mentioned earlier just think...it means one less prettyboy rap metal group, boy band or Creed clone.

"'Everything Is OK' CD Review"

If U2 played more straight forward radio oriented modern rock with catchy choruses and also had Alex Band (The Calling) as their singer, the result would be this Canadian Christian trio TURN OFF THE STARS.

Toronto natives Mike Walker (Vocals) and his brother Andrew Walker (Guitars) formed an acoustic duo and performed shows on campus - but something was missing...or someone. Enter drummer Max Kennedy. With the 3 of them together, their passion for rock became too strong to ignore and Turn Off the Stars was born.
"Everything is ok" is their debut which contains 8 tracks so it´s more of a mini album than an EP,they deliver guitarbased songs with soaring melodies that very fast becomes your new friends in the stereo.

The new single "Falling into you" even has an AOR chorus and above the *edge* influenced guitars with lots of the delay effect-I surrender without prejudice.
Another fave is the groovy and almost funky opening track "Please" that probably noone can´t sit still to,it´s so nice to hear radio friendly rock performed in an original way.

I would never get the chance of hearing this great band if it weren´t for my buddy and the true melodic.net reader Cor Jan from the Netherlands,a million thanks!

Bio

Generally speaking, one might assume that a band whose name originated from a song by jazz pianist Bill Evans wouldn't know a thing about how to rock. However, Toronto band Turn Off the Stars have been lighting up the stage, winning over crowds and recording a debut album in an effort to prove otherwise.

Turn Off the Stars began in 1998 at Western University in London, Ontario. Lead singer Mike Walker and his brother, guitarist Andrew Walker formed an acoustic duo and performed shows on campus - but deep down they knew something was missing...or someone. Enter drummer Max Kennedy. With the 3 of them together, their passion for rock became too strong to ignore and Turn Off the Stars was born.

With the release of their debut album, "Everything Is OK", Turn Off the Stars are ready to conquer the nation with their lush, atmospheric rock songs. Despite their lofty aspirations, be rest assured that any success which may befall Turn Off the Stars will not go to their collective heads.

We want to stay true to who we are and remember where we came from," says guitarist Andrew Walker, "we don't want to be a band that forgets that." Songs such as "Please" and "Oblivious" demonstrate how things have fallen into place musically for Turn Off the Stars. The guitar-based melodies and beautiful, poignant lyrics showcased on "Everything Is OK", represent a band that is wise beyond its years...and they've barely scratched the surface.
