Bio

Tu Shung Peng Reggae band, born in France in 1998, cherishes the values of Jamaican roots music from the 1970s. They take it as the starting point for their "live" played riddims, and sometimes spice it up with Jazz and Soul flavours. Even though they're strongly influenced by the music from the heydays of roots reggae, they create their own riddims and don't fall into the trap of refurbishing classic backdrops we've heard over and over again.

In times when Jamaican reggae turns itself increasingly into Dancehall and programming, Tu Shung Peng is cooking up ''old school'' riddims with the real sound of the island's great years. The greatest voices of reggae have joined the Tu Shung Peng : artists such as Ken Boothe, Michael Rose, U Roy, Derrick Harriott, Clinton Fearon, Justin Hinds and many others.

Musical influences come from artists such as Alton Ellis, Dennis Brown, Delroy Wilson, Bob Marley, the Skatalites, Black Uhuru, Minnie Riperton, Marvin Gay...

Born in St Catherine, Jamaica, from a family of twelve children, Ras Daniel Ray started to sing in church by the age of five. The name "Ray" was given to him by his father. ''Ray'' like ''doh'', ''ray'', ''me'', the first tones of the major scale, which already predestined him with a long musical career.

Echo Tone is his first Sound, but it is Kilamandjaro Sound System, in 1990,
which revealed him to the island’s public, all through a jamaican Tour, where he
shared the stage with Ninjaman, Supercat, Shabba Ranks and more. In that time, he recorded his first track, Bubbling Pot" for Sunset Records at Harry J
Studio, in Kingston, under the name of Sugar Ray.
With Jah Love Music Sound, Ras Daniel Ray went more spiritual and worked with
artists like Brigadier Jerry, Sista Carol, Culture Dan, Josey Wale, Charly Chaplin,
Garnett Silk, Tony Rebel, Luciano and more. His appearances multiplied, with
great participation to Reggae Sunsplash and Selassie Brothers Festival.
