Bio

Tweezy steps into the music industry as an artist who is in full command of his craft. His uncanny ability to paint pictures with words and his unyielding passion for music is what sets him apart from most independent artists.   Tweezy’s music not only shows where he’s been but also where he is going.  The depth and quality of his music are sure to gain him accolades and notoriety amongst fans and fellow rap mates.

Tweezy was born in Jacksonville FL (Duval County) as Antwan Johnson. He was raised by his mother and father, along with his two younger siblings. He grew up in poverty on the Southside of Jacksonville but his mother was sure to instill in him good values and expressed the importance of education and pursuing his dreams. It was at the age of 12 that Tweezy discovered he had a true passion for music.  “When I was 12, my mom purchased me my first Bone (Bone, Thugs & Harmony) cd. It was titled East 1999 Eternal, and it changed my life. After listening to it, I knew that rap was what I wanted to do. A lot of the music I create today is influenced by Bone.”  Tweezy was also influenced by Michael Jackson, Tupac, Slick Rick, Marvin Gaye, and Outkast and it is reflected in a lot of his songs today.

In 2006, Tweezy moved to Atlanta to pursue his rap career. That same year he signed with a label and released an EP. Due to differences with the label he decided it was time to part ways.  Tweezy and fellow rapper Ready formed a group called The Villeins. After a few minor setbacks, things really began to blossom for him in 2009.  By 2010, The Villiens worked their way onto a mixtape with Gorilla Zoe entitled “I Am Independent”. It was a compilation of songs with different independent artists in Atlanta.  Shortly after the mixtape, Tweezy decided to go solo again and he released his first mixtape in 2012, entitled The Prequel: 10 Days, 20 Verses.  Tweezy’s second mixtape, The Prequel II (Screw Face), was released October of 2014. The mixtape really showed his growth and range as an artist from Ole Thang, a ballad type track, which offered insight into past failed relationships to Time, an analytical truth filled track, which illustrates how the choices we make effect the time we are given.

Tweezy is currently gearing up to release sophomore album Apollo in December 2014. He has tirelessly worked on the album for the past year and hopes that fans can appreciate the hard work poured into it.  Apollo delivers more than your usual southern rap album.  The melodic beats paired with the scholarly lyrical content show the versatility of Tweezy as an artist. Tweezy did quite a few collaborations on Apollo. There is High Fashion with newly signed Epic recording artist Rocky Diamonds and Bengees with Platinum selling artist Leigh Bush (Sammie). Being an independent artist himself, he only saw it fitting to do collaborations with other independent artists on this album. Songstress Gerelle McKoy is featured on Apollolyptian and rapper Evawill is featured on the track Contemplate.  Long days and late nights often keep Tweezy away from his family and loved ones but he says he wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. When asked what his plan B is if music doesn’t pan out, Tweezy replies “Music is my plan A thru C”
