Twelve South has a sound all of their own. With a blend of Third Day, Jeremy Camp and Matchbox Twenty, this band combines powerful vocals with thought provoking lyrics that inspire the heart and lift up the soul. Beautiful harmonies, rockin guitars and a powerful rhythm section complete the band.

Biography

Twelve South, a band based in Middle Tennessee, is comprised of five guys who love music and love God. Yet, they consider themselves a different kind of Christian band – one that isn’t afraid of dirty hands and digging in to do the work involved in God’s kingdom.

The members write songs about real-life situations and their pasts. They view themselves as a group of normal guys with God-given talents they are using together, reaching out to people through their lyrics. Their lyrics don’t have to be an obvious cry out to the lost, but the message is in all of their songs. They hope through the venues where they choose to perform and through their secular rock, pop and acoustic sound that they will begin to reach out to the world. They are simply Christians in a band with a mission to use their talent and music to help their fans dig deeper and uncover their hearts.

Twelve South began as a one-time gig. Alex was asked by a friend to perform for a church youth lock-in. Alex agreed on the condition he could find a band. He recruited from among fellow church members on praise teams, friends, and friends of friends. Out of this gig, three Twelve South members emerged. Alex, Jeremy and Scott all began to write together and stir around the idea of a band. With a friend as a temporary bassist, no drummer and waiting for an electric-guitar player to return from the Dominican Republic, they explored the avenues of playing together. They began playing shows with fill-in members and without keys since Scott was on drums until the lineup was set. They also began playing under the name Downpour, until confusion arose since the name was also a part of the Calvary Baptist Church college ministry. At this point the guys needed a name for their new band. They began to think of ideas, and after much deliberation, they found a solution. They wrote down words on pieces of paper and threw them in a baseball cap. They picked the words out two at a time. “Twelve” and “South” were the first two picked. Shortly after realizing that "Twelve South" was as good as it was going to get, they decided to leave the name drawing and keep the new name.

As the summer of 2009 came to an end, Wes returned and agreed to play electric guitar with the guys, and Matt returned from his summer tour and agreed to play bass. Scott was still playing drums for the band as they began to book gigs. They tried out numerous drummers at practices, even one drummer they found on craigslist. They all agreed he had the talent, but the timing for the drummer just wasn’t going to work out, and Scott continued to play.

In November 2009, Twelve South played at Rocketown with SONICFLOOd, David Upton and Messenger. This really focused the band members, and later that month, they recorded their EP, still with Scott playing drums and keys. As the holidays passed, and the band came back together for practices, they knew they were determined to find a drummer. Alex called back John the drummer from craigslist. He still had no gig and Alex asked him to come to another practice. John entered the picture and returned for another Twelve South practice – and he was impressed with the band’s progress in such a short time. Thus, the band became six-members strong and faced a new year ahead.

In February 2010, the band released its self-titled EP. Twelve South won the 102.9 the Buzz Battle of the Bands competition in April and has also been featured on the radio numerous times since then. "I would definitely say we are picking up speed." Says the bands lead singer Alex Belew. The band plans on playing out as much as possible in the coming months and they are returning to the studio late June. They have recently partnered with Fastrax entertainment and they are working hard to book/market and manage 12S. With so many great things on the horizon the guys keep pushing forward and writing new songs. Playing venues such as the Exit In, Rocketown, 12th & Porter, The Muse, The Rutledge and many churches, the band is earning more and more credibility and their fan base continues to grow. "We can't wait to see what God has in store for us in the next couple of months and years."

The band most recently finished recording 3 new songs at Castle Studios in Franklin Tn. These songs are being used by Fastrax Entertainment to pitch the band to different labels around the Nashville area. Singer Alex Belew's thoughts on the band are "God has really blessed us more than we could have imagined. It's truly amazing to see how much has happened in the last year. It's more than any of us deserve." Stay tuned for what's going to happen with these guys in the near future.

Save Me

Written By: Twelve South

You've broken your will
Your spirit is gone
All your days have been troubled
So now it's time to move on
Inside you're dying
And not a moment too soon
When a cry from within
Echoes the room

Save me
Free me from these chains
Save me
Till only you remain
I don't know what to do
I've got so much to prove
Lord tell me why
I have to run from you

Down on your knees
Broken and scarred
All you hold near
Just keeps falling apart
Inside your dying
And not a moment too soon
When a cry from within
Echoes the room

Save me
Free me from these chains
Save me
Till only you remain
I don't know what to do
I've got so much to prove
Lord tell me why
I have to run from you

You've gotta face the pain
Your strength is in his hands
For you can never be too sure
Of all that he has planned
Reach out for the cross
There’s nothing He can’t do
You died for me
So I live for you

Save me
Free me from these chains
Save me
Till only you remain
I don't know what to do
I've got so much to prove
Lord tell me why
I have to run from you
Save Me

This Love

Written By: Twelve South

I see the way you fall
Fall down on me
This world can torture your soul
I know it can leave you
Scared and cold
Confused, without a shadow of hope
You can’t run
For too long
For you will see

This love is what can free you
This love is what can heal
This love is what can save you
From all the pain you feel

From all the lies you told
To all the truth inside
All the doubts you have
To all the shame you hide
One day it will be gone
Washed far away
Paid for in full
So you would stay

This love is what can free you
This love is what can heal
This love is what can save you
From all the pain you feel

You will soon know
The beauty of the cross
All your faith renewed
You will soon know
The beauty of the cost
All your faith renewed

This love is what can free you
This love is what can heal
This love is what can save you
From all the pain you feel

This love
This love, Yeah

This love is what can free you
This love is what can heal

Waiting For You

Written By: Twelve South

I know I told you I loved you
But you ran far away
I know I died just to save you
But you, you gave it away

You try to run from my love
But I won't let you go
Can't you see that I know your heart
Your mind and I know your soul

And I am waiting for you
And I am waiting for you
Yes I am waiting for you
Waiting for you my friend
To come back home

I know I told you I loved you
But you ran far away
I know I died just to save you
But you, you gave it away

And I am waiting for you
And I am waiting for you
Yes I am waiting for you
Waiting for you my friend
To come back home

And I’ll always be there for you my friend
No matter, win or lose
Just know that one day
I'll be back
No matter what you choose

And I am waiting for you
And I am waiting for you
Yes I, I’m still waiting for you
Waiting for you my friend
To come back home

For you to come back home
My friend, for you to come back home

New Hope

Written By: Twelve South

Everything was down
And all was washed away
Love had left for good
And darkness moved in to stay
You turned it all away
You let it go
You can't handle
It anymore

So welcome to a new hope
You have found a new life
Welcome to a new day
Seems you've found a new way
So welcome to a new hope
You have found a new life
Welcome to a new day
Seems you've found a new way

Tell me why you're crying
Can't you see what love has done
Dry your eyes my friend
For a new day has come

So welcome to a new hope
You have found a new life
Welcome to a new day
Seems you've found a new way
So welcome to a new hope
You have found a new life
Welcome to a new day
Seems you've found a new way

Look up
Cause freedom’s calling you
Won't you step out
Your hope is growing
Look up
Cause freedom’s calling you
Won't you step out
Your hope is growing

So welcome to a new hope
You have found a new life
Welcome to a new day
Seems you've found a new way

So welcome to a new hope
You have found a new life
Welcome to a new day
Seems you've found a new way

Calling Me

Written By: Twelve South

Staring at the ground I see
Your grace surrounding me
I can't walk away
No I can't walk away

Every time I lift my head
Your love it captures me
I can't be moved
I can't be moved

I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling me

And now I bow my head
Just to say these words
I pray to you
I pray to you

And now I bow my head
Just to say these words
I pray to you
I pray to you

I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling me
I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling me

Cause I'm never alone
I've got nothing to fear
You've got my heart in your hands
You're always near
I can weather the storms
With you by my side, Oh yeah
Cause I'm never alone
I've got nothing to fear
My heart's in your hands
I've got nothing to fear
I can weather the storms

I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling me

I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling me, Yeah
I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling
I can feel you calling me

Oooooh

Be There

Written By: Twelve South

I got so tired of running
I was running in place
Every single step
That I took
Took me
Further from your grace

Now the time has come
For me to find my way
I'm reaching out to you my God
And this is what I pray

Will You be there when I call to You
Will You be there when I fall down again
To help me pick up all the pieces of my life
That I thought were my own

And I thought that you said
You would always be there
With these burdens left to bear
It just seems
That when I'm all alone
I forget that you are near

Now the time has come
For me to find my way
I'm reaching out to you my God
And this is what I pray

Will You be there when I call to You
Will You be there when I fall down again
To help me pick up all the pieces of my life
That I thought were my own
Will You be there when I call to You
Will You be there when I fall down again
To help me pick up all the pieces of my life
That I thought were my own

When I call out to You
You're sure to hear my plea
You pick me up from the ground
You bring me to my knees
Forever I will be true
Forever I am Yours

Will You be there when I call to You
Will You be there when I fall down again
To help me pick up all the pieces of my life
That I thought were my
That I thought were my
That I thought were my own

Know Me

Written By: Twelve South

I see you
Do you see me
I know everything
That you need inside
That you need inside now

I know you
Do you know me
I know everything
You can be inside
You can be inside now

You’re holding me
Deep inside your heart
And now I’m free
Just lying in your arms

So take my hand
And walk with me
I’ll never leave your side
You will see someday
You will see

You’re holding me
Deep inside your heart
And now I’m free
Just lying in your arms
You’re holding me
Deep inside your heart
And now I’m free
Just lying in your arms

You’re just a stranger here
You’ve only got a day
In this crazy world
You’ve got to find a way

You’re holding me
Deep inside your heart
And now I’m free
Just lying in your arms
You’re holding me
Deep inside your heart
And now I’m free
Just lying in your arms

I know you
Do you know me
I know everything
You can be

Fallout

Written By: Twelve South

Throw me down
Y ou wanna lock me up
I pray these evils
Won’t tear me up

Hold on tight
Things will change
Soon enough
I’m gonna break these chains

Put me down
In a hole
No you’re never
Gonna steal my soul

Now it all
Depends on You
I know you
Can see me through

It’s the fallout, the fallout
You wanna run and hide
What you’ve been living for is a lie
The fallout, the fallout
When all the black turns to white
What you’ve been living for is a lie

Put it all on the line
But I know you’ll never find the time for
Everything that your soul needs
Let it go it will set you free

It’s the fallout, the fallout
You wanna run and hide
What you’ve been living for is a lie
The fallout, the fallout
When all the black turns to white
What you’ve been living for is a lie
