"Twin Bridges CD Release"

When Tyler Key talks about the Twin Bridges show this coming Wednesday, he sounds thrilled. One of the vocalists and guitar players for the local pop/jazz band, Key says the group first came together to play covers years ago, then decided to make an album with original music (bandmates include Kate Quinn, Trevor Conrad, Tommy Melanson and Evan Ferguson). "We thought we'd bang it out in a few months and move on," says Key, of putting together their CD. "But once we got into it, we realized how much we wanted to put in." A year-and-a-half later, Beneath the Neon Lights is ready, thanks to generous friends and musicians who helped out in the St. Cecilia recording studio on Purcell's Cove Road. Amongst those musicians are Chris Mitchell, Danny Martin and Rick Waychesko (of Lighthouse), who put together a "brilliant" horn section, says Key. All three contributors will be at the CD release at the Paragon, as will a few other special guests. - HG - The Coast

Bio

Before we get started, thanks for checking us out. We appreciate it.

We’re a group of young musicians from Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is a vibrant city full of talented people. We are sincerely, passionately proud of the full-length, début album we’ve recently recorded. We play regularly in Halifax at Stayner’s Wharf and at the Casino Nova Scotia, and we’re very thankful for the chance to perform our original material at those popular venues.

We’ve taken a long time to record this very first album with all the funding we could find and favors we could ask. The songs are great, the playing is fantastic, the process is complicated, the frustrations were seemingly endless, but the satisfaction of a finished, tangible product has been unlike any fulfillment we’ve ever experienced. We finally (!) have an answer for the many people who’ve asked us “where can I buy the record?”

“Adult Contemporary” is a broad genre and doesn’t aptly define our music, but if our album were to be found in a record store among those black and white labels - pop/rock, easy listening, “jazz” - it might be found in the Adult Contemporary section. In 2007, we were lucky enough to be the May winners in the Adult Contemporary category of the VH1 Song of the Year Contest. We do like other artists whose albums have also been filed under “Adult Contemporary” – artists like Sting, John Mayer, Derek Trucks, Nickel Creek, Amos Lee, Lizz Wright, Bonnie Raitt, Donny Hathaway, and the Dave Matthews Band, for example.

And so, our influences and inspirations are clearly great musicians who play great music. Musical legends, famous players and local heroes have all shaped and styled our sound. We’re always listening, and we have such a genuine appreciation for inspired musicianship. That’s ultimately what we hope to accomplish: to help bring people together by playing honest, beautiful music. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?
