"Twine"

WRAT
by Steve Hook

A few weeks ago I received a call from a listener who had just gotten home after checking out Clutch at the Starland Ballroom, and he was drunkenly going on and on about the opening band. He kept trying to tell me the name of this band, but do to more JD and Cokes than he probably needed all I heard was the word "fine". I asked if he thought the opening act was fine. He said,"They were beyond fine! "They were fuggblijnnn greeeaat man!" So,again I asked him who the band was, and, again,he said "Fine!" It went on and on like some kind of drunken Abbott and Costello-Who's On First skit! I never managed to understand who the hell he was talking about.

So I gotta tell you I was very happy when I finally figured out who this guy was referring to. It so happens that I just recently received a package from the guys in TWiNE. That was it! That was who the drunken cat was trying to tell me about! It's easy to understand why this guy was in a party mode after having seen TWiNE at the Starland. They really bring it,and they bring it big and loud. These guys are certainly ambitious. When a band lists on their bio that they "push the limits of rock" and then list metal,nu-metal,hardcore,post-hardcore,experimental,and industrial with elements of dark wave(whatever the hell that is) you know that they are really throwing themselves out there. Well,I'm happy to report that TWiNE does not disappoint. Not even a little. They won the 2006 Asbury Park Music Award for Top Heavy Rock Act. They were also nominated for Top Live Performance, and Top Male Vocalist.

Check out what thousands of drunken fans already know about these guys! TWiNE rocks on Jersey Rock this week on The Rat! - wrat the rat 95.9 fm

Twine
Eatontown, NJ

My bro, P.J. Angeloni from the bands L.A.T.C.H. and PRYDE sent me an IM a couple of weeks ago to check out a band from Eatontown, NJ. How, just so all of you know, I usually hate everything that P.J. asks me to listen to. So, I was a little skeptical when it came to checking out this band. The name of the band is Twine and they were actually pretty cool! They had instant energy and aggression from the first song that I heard, “Tear You Down.” In my book, that is a major plus! I had to hear more, so I clicked on to the next song, which was appropriately titled “The Quiet Song.” The song started off with a piano part and then the electricity kicked in. Singers Rick Carr and Ryan Edgar (yes, two singers!) really have strong voices. I’m not sure who does the screaming and who does the singing, but it’s definitely some good stuff. They have a metal sound with a hardcore vibe and I really enjoyed it! Good find this time P.J.!

Like I said before, the name of the band is Twine. They formed in 1997, but they find it hard to say whom their music is influenced by because the band feels that they were influenced by all of the music that’s out there. So when asked that question they just say that they’re influenced by “everything”! Twine feel that it’s their time because they’ve been going at this music thing for nearly 10 years, with no money or management. (Welcome to my world!) Without a booking agent, they’ve booked shows with the likes of Drowning Pool, Gwar, Adema, Finger Eleven, Apex Theory, Powerman 5000, Stereomud, God Forbid and Bile, just to name a few. Now, those are some pretty heavy-hitters in this business! Just this past summer Twine embarked on their first tour ever with their very good friends End Of An Era. Their fans have described their shows as “chaotic, highly emotional, and fucking nuts.” Twine is made up of six members: Singers Rick Carr and Ryan Edgar, bassist Jim Chorman, drummer Keith Wood, guitarist Scott Fraser and keyboardist Dave Cohen.

The songs that I mentioned earlier can be found at myspace.com/twinemusic. Go there and listen to these tracks! I guarantee most of you will like the music! Their new CD Burning The White Flag is also available to buy on their MySpace page! Check it out!

Winners of last year’s Asbury Music Award in the category of Top Heavy Rock Act, the double-lead-singer-fied Twine recently released their latest recording, Burning The White Flag on their own Jersey Jam label. The album, which takes elements of nu-metal and melds it with more modern metalcore, was put together at The Jam Room in Howell and to celebrate, the band is planning their very first tour, one which will take them up and down the East Coast.

You might have seen them open up for Clutch this past December at Starland Ballroom. Opening for national acts seems to be Twine’s specialty, as in the past they’ve done for Powerman 5000, Drowning Pool, Type O Negative and Gwar. They’ve also competed in the Jersey Shows Battle Of The Bands and The Rat’s Ratfest Band Search.

Bio

TWiNE. was born in 1997. All 6 members of TWiNE. are full bred Jersey boys.We are out to push the limits of rock from many different perspectives, such as metal, nu-metal, hardcore, post-hardcore, experimental, and industrial with elements of dark wave. Over the years TWiNE. has fought through the underground without money or management. They have, on their own, booked shows with Type O Negative, The Union Underground, Adema, Drowning Pool, Apex Theory, Bile, Dust to Dust, Gwar, Finger Eleven, Powerman 5000, Goat Whore, God Forbid, Scott Putesky(formerly Daisy Berkowitz of Marilyn Manson), Ohgr(formerly of Skinny Puppy), Chevelle, Boy Hits Car, StereoMudd, Pulse Ultra, and closed 2006 on December 29th at the Starland Ballroom in Sayerville opening for Clutch.

TWiNE.'s live show has been described by fans as intense, incredibly energetic, and emotional. After 10 years of learning what it means to perform, TWiNE. has become so explosive it is hard for every member of the band to remain on stage for an entire set. Often times, you can find 1 or 2 performing from the pit, standing on the bar, or climbing the walls. For TWiNE., the entire venue is the stage.

TWiNE. recently won the 2006 Asbury Park Music Awards Top Heavy Rock Act award. After receiving this award, TWiNE. took the stage with an explosive and unforgettable performance. TWiNE. was also nominated for Top Live Performance and Top Male Vocalist. In 2005, TWiNE. was nominated for both Top Heavy Rock Act and Top Live Performance, as well. TWiNE. also competed as one of nine bands in the 95.9 The Rat's Ratfest Band Search in the summer of 2005. They were also on 95.9 the Rat as A featured artist in 2007, and were 2006 Jersy Shows Battle of The Bands semi-finalists.

On June 15th 2007, TWiNE. released their long awaited Burning The White Flag. Recorded at the Jam Room Music Complex in Howell, N.J., engineered by Arnie Brown, and mastered by Steve Puntollilo, it would be a defining moment in TWiNE. history.www.myspace.com/twinemusic
