"Twin Foxes Are a Reminder That Emo Rock Can Still Have Balls"

Pop punk is usually not a respected genre, and it's only rarely been popular, but happen upon the right song and you start to think, Hey, guitars, major chords, some righteous anger and heart-on-your-sleeve emotional outpouring—why isn't this track being played on the radio all the time?

"Year on a String" by relatively unknown Providence-based band Twin Foxes is one of those special songs. These guys play the type of emo that reminds us of Taking Back Sunday's heyday, but with some lo-fi hints of Cap'n Jazz and Lincoln mixed in. Listen to this if you need proof that the spirit of Jawbreaker and the Kinsella brothers is still alive and well. - Vice

"Twin Foxes releasing debut EP (listen to two tracks)"

Providence's Twin Foxes are releasing their self-titled debut EP this week (pre-order on vinyl or cassette), and ahead of that we've got the premiere of its newest single, "Summer's Halo." It follows the emo-y lead single "Year On A String," but the new single doesn't get much more emo than The Promise Ring did on Very Emergency. This one sounds more like the result of digging deep into Merge and Matador's '90s catalogs and then reaching for your guitar. Listen to both below. - Brooklyn Vegan

"Exclusive Spin: Twin Foxes"

Twin Foxes aren’t afraid to get a little dirty. There’s an audible layer of fuzz that hangs over their debut self-titled EP, each crash of the kit hanging around for about a half-second longer than more cleanly produced work, the vocal work taking on a live feel, while still retaining the emotional nuance needed for a song like “Year On A String,” which exclaims, “I’m conditioned to feel this way.” It’s that balance that makes the Providence-based outfit so appealing; they’re a little grimey, but it’s not a contest of who can play the loudest, they’re still playing music you can directly relate to, can understand. And while “Summer’s Halo” is the standout track — those vocals just remind me of bands around in my youth — it’s the exclamation that they’re going to “Shed” their skin in that final track that knocked me back a bit. When they finally say “end,” you’re allowed to stop listening. Very excited about this premiere.

The EP is currently available on vinyl through Full City Sour and on cassette at Disposable America, with the former on red wax. The EP will be released officially on January 23rd.

Bio

Harnessing sounds of the 90's wordy, heart on a sleeve, right of passage into adulthood attitude, Twin Foxes is a loud and emotional experience.  Some may call it "nerd rock", others may say it pulls from a mid-western state of mind, pushing the idea of what experimental indie/punk rock could be.  The band just released their debut ep on 7 inch vinyl through Full City Sour and on cassette through Disposable America.  The band is currently working it's first full length due out later 2015.
