"Twin Jewels 'Ya'll is Mad Stupid' CD Review"

Twin Jewels: ya'll is mad stupid
The newest Twin Jewels six song EP "ya'll is mad stupid" will not disappoint fans of the punk/pop trio. The first two songs on the CD are "Missed" and Alone". Both songs rock with the signature Twin Jewels sound. The third song is a punked up lively cover of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". I was not a huge fan of the 80's hair band's original version of this song, but this cover is just plain fun. Track number 4 "Now I'll Stay" continues the ball rockin' tunes and track 5 "When I'm With You" is my favorite on the CD. With the last track "Ya'll can't", the band enters new territory by inviting Denton's own up and coming rapper Rob 'Italeeon' from The Henchmen to mix it up with them. The result is a uniquely punk/hardcore rap rhythm that you'll be trying not to sing at work.

"Twin Jewels 'Give Me Your Lunch Money' CD Review"

TWIN JEWELS: Give Me Your Lunch Money

Denton's favorite pop/punk band released their last full length CD, "Give Me Your Lunch Money" in 2003. The CD is packed full of Twin Jewels signature catchy songs about girls, parties, and good times. There is nothing worse than a punk CD where you can not hear the bass. You won't have that problem with this CD. Shane Watt's bass lines come through loud and clear on all tracks. Wendell Lipscomb provides fresh crisp vocals and rippin' guitar. Chris Hughes, one of Dallas's most talented punk drummers, tears it up. The overall good sound of the CD should not come as a surprise. It was produced and mixed by Denton legend Eric Delegard at Reeltime Audio. The LP starts off with everyone's favorite crowd pleaser, "Mexico". This is not only a badass tune, but unusual enough that you would not confuse it with anything else getting played on the radio. And "Mexico" actually did get played quite a few times on the late 97.1 The Eagle's Local Show. I would have to say that track 2 "Hey Kids" is my favorite tune on the CD. It's just a straight-up balls rockin' song. Tracks 5 and 6 "Thinkin' about" and "No One's Fault" came in as my close second favorites. Track 7, "The Hook-Up" demonstrates the band's willingness to stray from the traditional path. On this track the band combines forces with Space Cadet's lead guitarist Killa Ted on a metal/rap/punk song that would make Kid Rock proud. This CD starts off fast and furious and doesn't let up until the last track "Last Night". This final track is a very cool acoustic ballad and a great ways to end a perfect CD.

Bio

Twin Jewels hails from the college party town of Denton, Texas. North Texas is not your typical hotspot for Punk music so for the most part Twin Jewels is alone in their genre but you wouldn’t know that from seeing a live show. Fans and bands alike participate in shows by singing Twin Jewels’ regular cover of the Ramones’ song “Blitzkrieg Bob.” “Hey, Ho….Let’s Go!” That’s the party attitude Twin Jewels brings to every show.

Wendell fronts Twin Jewels bringing crunchy palm muted power chords and catchy guitar riffs, coupled with his signature voice, to entertain the crowd; while Josh is the funky glue that brings angelic vocal harmonies and expert bass lines to get the ladies dancing; meanwhile, Tom is in the back breaking cymbals, heads and sticks to get the kids moving with pounding drums. If this trio of rockers doesn’t get your head bobbing or feet tapping by the end of the night… you are too drunk!

If you want a slice of Southern California Punk Rock in the heart of Texas, come to a Twin Jewels show.
