Bio

The Toronto-based duo of TWO LEFT, comprised of KORCE and KAYNOSE (cousins Tosh and Kit Weyman) bring an undeniable chemistry to their music. The two possess a connection that is apparent both on stage performing, and when creating in the studio.

One could almost say that Two Left has been a project in the making for all 20 years of these young artists' lives. Much of their musical connection can be attributed to having grown up in a close-knit extended family, living only a few blocks away from each other. In fact, as little tykes, the two cousins lived in the same house for a time. Back then, even though Korce wasn't making beats with his rattle while Kaynose spat something over top (literally), their strong bond was apparent. This connection was further solidified with their discovery of Hip Hop, and more importantly, what they were able to do with it.

Initially, the idea of making music as a group was not a pursuit. Instead, the two spent their time freestyling to any instrumental tracks they could find, practicing and honing their lyrical skills. Gradually, they began writing verses down, slowly gaining interest in what they could do as an organized group. Although happy to use any beat to rap on, they wanted something of their own to begin writing original songs. This idea was realized when Korce got his hands on a free copy of Pro Tools. He looped a simple 8 bar sample from "Pachabel's Canon" over a Slum Village drum line. The beat was by no means impressive, but it was their own, and it opened a whole new door.

Since then, both Korce and Kaynose have been on the grind, experimenting with and formulating their unique sound over the past 3 years. Although tapping into many early hip hop influences including The Roots, Reflection Eternal, Pete Rock, J Dilla, Common, Mos Def, Nas, Atmosphere, and The Pharcyde, Two Left's style is hard to parallel. Bringing a musicality rarely heard in most hip hop, the sound of Two Left combines live saxophone, head nodding drums, and distinct samples with mind lifting lyrics and soulful female vocals.

In an industry that can often force artists to conform to a set image, the two bring a style all their own; staying true to themselves and drawing off their own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. With a background in acting, Two Left know the true meaning of engaging stage presence, consistently winning the crowd over with their energetic and passion filled show. Quickly gaining notoriety for their crowd pleasing performances, and appearances on Rhythmicru's 2005 "Supertoke Mixtape Vol .1" (Given 4 "N"s by NOW magazine), Two Left established themselves as a budding force in Toronto's Hip Hop scene.

This past November, powered by Korce's signature production style and navigated by Kaynose's mind lifting lyrics and design, TWO LEFT dropped their debut album. PUT UP THE TWO is a culmination of music spanning from where they began, to where they are today, and leaving you wondering where they are headed for the future. After a capacity filled CD release party at the Rivoli, and continuous collaborations on shows and songs with artists from around the GTA, Montreal, and B.C., TWO LEFT looks poised to make their impact on today's music scene.
