Biography

Kenny Lu is a recently new musican who has been studying classical piano for 5 years. In the midst of his tutelage, he found himself to be an accomplished sight reader He began reading whatever he could get his hands on but there is a world of jazz music that Kenny hasn't been exposed to because of the chord notation instead of having everything written out. Because of his dependency on sight reading, improvisation has been a struggle. He broadened his horizons by reading stylized notated material such as film scores and contemporary works.
Kenny's musical education is a mainly his attendence at the Boston Arts Academy where he studied classical piano for four years and some jazz and accompaniment. Here he learned the basics of technique, theory and excelled at performance. Making great use of the practice rooms, he was consulted by many musicians looking for assistance with their own musics along with a duet or so for their own recitals. Performance wise, Kenny started his freshman year, playing a novice piece such as Solfegietto by Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach. During his senior year he managed to complete the entire pathetique sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven.
He soon hopes to be vocal coach or a choir accompanist at the piano. From his feats at the Boston Arts Academy he now attends Salem State University hoping to take from his music classes, something greater that he will be able to use in a career in the near future.
