"Southwind to Open for Legendary Rockers Molly Hatchet"

Molly Hatchet to do special performance at The Longhorn Club
Published 05/06/2009 - 7:25 p.m. CST

The Molly Hatchet Band Flys in to Texas for a One-Night-Only appearance at the Texas Longhorn in Vinton, La. Journeymen Southern rockers Molly Hatchet roar into The Texas Longhorn Club Friday night May 9th for a one-show only performance that promises to be famous in its own right.

Management at The Longhorn had to go through a “lot of extra steps to be able to present this band at this time” said a Club source. Molly Hatchet is flying into Houston Friday morning for this extraordinary one-show only performance. According to one rock tale, the band took its name from a legendary Southern prostitute who supposedly mutilated and decapitated her clients.

To balance the evenings entertainment The Longhorn has selected the Beaumont based C&W cover band SOUTHWIND asd local headliners to open the show. The band has been gaining popularity week after week on the regional circuit with their brilliant technical ability as musicians and mix of vocalists that features the crystal clear and hard hitting vocals of local R&B legend Billy Sanford with those of longtime country artist Jerry Stanley. SOUTHWIND has won multiple awards by the regional as well as national Texas Music Association having recently been voted "Texas's Most Admired Band" as well as other awards. Stepbrothers Kenny Scarborough and Billy Sanford formed the band in 1999 and have been critically acclaimed as one of the areas "Top Country Bands."

Kenny credits much of the band's success to his friendship with the great Gary Puckett from the 1960's supergroup The Union Gap. Gary Puckett & The Union Gap were nationally known pop superstars in the late 1960's actually selling more records than The Beatles in 1970! "Gary is an amazing artist and has been kind enough to critique our music from time to time. "Gary has been my idol since I was 20 years old and when someone as great as he takes an interest in your music...YOU LISTEN!" I still sometimes find myself in shock that he would even take the time to give us advice.

Advance tickets for the full evening of entertainment are $20 through Thursday at: The Longhorn Truck and Car Plaza in Vinton, Bar B Western Wear on Main in Vidor, Sam’s Western Wear on College (Hwy 90) in Beaumont, Cotton’s Western Wear on Ryan in Lake Charles and The Horseman’s Store on I-10 East in Orange.

Day of show tickets are $25 and available at all locations and the door. The doors will open promptly at 8p.m.

For table reservations and/or to charge tickets by phone call: 337-589-5647 ext 103.
