Bio
The first solo artist debuting on the independent label ABK [All Business Konducted] Music & Media is Virginia rapper Ty gracie. Hungry and determined like a pit bull Gracie is dedicated to his music and self-assured like he is destined for platinum success. " I respect game and game respect me," he boasts.
Born in Hampton, Virginia and raised in the 'Bad Newz' area of Newport News, Gracie, whose birth name is Eric Jackson had his share of run-ins with the law as a youth. He has seen tragedy and death within his crew as well as the media scrutiny and pressure of his childhood friend Allen Iverson. This blend of different views and lifestyles has shaped Gracie and affected his rhymes.
After a 1994 stint in jail, Gracie decided to become more serious about his music. "I saw artist like Redman and Wu Tang doing their thing," he says. "That just sparked something in me to go for my dreams."
Gracie has been battling other rappers in the school bathrooms since the 6th grade when they used to meet in the school bathrooms and challenge each other. He grew up listening to Run-DMC, EPMD, Kool G Rap. Although other artists from virginia have gained notoriety, Gracie does not want to be compared with them. "Nobody from Newport News has made it in the music business and ABK is going to change that,." Gracie states defiantly. "People from Bad News have a different story to tell."
The album, "State of Grace:VA's Finest, My life my Story" Vol. 1 is vividly full of details of hard life and hustling. Songs like " ABK gangstaz feat. Snoop Dog & Nicole Wray" showcase his lyrical skill. He's a modern day urban story-teller with a 70's funk influence comparable to the MC's of rap's golden age. With songs such as " Niggas Ain't Shit feat. 50 cent", "I Got It feat. Fat Joe", and "Bad Newz Finest" Virginia's offical street anthem, Ty Gracie's first album is sure to win.
Gracie also worked with Allen Iverson on his previously scheduled Universal Music Group album release. He list Scarface, Fat Joe, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z and Kool G Rap as the artist that he respects the most in the world of rap. "Storytellers respect storytellers," Gracie says.
