BandPopRock

My particular brand of electronic pop/rock combines the crunchiness of T.Rex, the heart-pumping dance-ability of New Order, and the feel-good analog drift of Duran Duran's early work.

Biography

21-year-old Tyler Burns knows a thing or two about making music. Having learned four instruments by his teens, Tyler decided to pursue songwriting. Looking for a new type of sound, he began sequencing parts of his arrangements on synthesizers. It wasn’t long before he found his niche… In 2005, Tyler was a featured programmer on Clavia's website for their Nord Lead 3 subtractive synthesizer.
Attracting the interest of a publisher, Tyler began composing short songs for TV in his late teens. In 2006, he signed a second-season publishing deal with MTV's signature show, "Rob and Big," which reached over 70 million viewers during its first season. This opened up deals with several networks, including a universal deal with MTV, covering over 30 of his tracks.
Listen to any track off of Tyler’s upcoming debut record, however, and a different era of MTV pop comes to mind. Uptown Boys Regular is reminiscent of a time when acts like Duran Duran and The Human League dominated the airwaves, bringing sleek, synthesized pop/rock and a feel-good vibe to audiences looking for a new sound. That time has come again.
“In all the music I write, my goal is to create a composition that is sophisticated on an artistic level, with all the catchiness of a simple pop song.”
With his extensive knowledge of music theory, love for the classic pop song, and, of course, a recording created primarily with vintage analog equipment, Tyler Burns is ready to show you just what an “Uptown Boys Regular” is all about.

Uptown Boys Regular

“Uptown Boys Regular” by Tyler Burns

Verse 1

We stand alone on the edge of the forest
Wonder how this came to be, running your hands through my hair
This maze of life like the jungle before us
But at least you see what you’re doing here

Cuz where I come from there is none of this magic, there’s none of
This waving your wand in the air
You try so hard to please the world that it’s tragic
Can’t you make these problems disappear?

Pre-Chorus 1

But if you leave it up to me…(whoo-whoo)
I want it, you got it
So work that magic baby, give me this one for free

Chorus 1

I get the Uptown Boys Regular, that’s what I like, (Boys Regular)
I get the Uptown Boys Regular, that’s what I like, (Boys Regular)
OH YEAH!

Verse 2

In times before it was the sound of my laughter, maybe
In times now past it was my scent of red cedar and pine
I couldn’t see it was the looks you were after
Now you’ve placed me on your hidden shrine

I’d never match up to your love of Bill Mandis on Breyman
Still I know you’d never
Say no to me
It’s easy to see
That you’re crazy for this new look of mine

Bridge 1

[indiscernible]
That's a lot of...YOW!

Pre-Chorus 2

But if you left it up to us…(whoo-whoo)
We want it, you got it
So work that magic baby, give it to friends you trust

Chorus 2

We get the Uptown Boys Regular, that’s what we like, (Boys Regular)
You always look so good in a Regular, it’s a copout, (Boys Regular)
OH YEAH!

Bridge 2

Girls can make you hazy
Guys just act so crazy
Life, at times, just seems so insane
Oh yeah, uh-huh
Oh yeah, alright
So let it all out tonight

Breakdown

Boys will be boys
They’ll do their thing
Boys will be boys
They’ll get short haircuts

(repeat)

Red Rope of Jericho

Written By: Tyler Burns

Verse 1

I know a girl
Who made her start
Stealing flashes from cameras in fashion art
She made her way
I suppose
Drinking champagne at parties in fancy clothes
I stayed away
Removed myself
Left that copy of Glamour up on the shelf
It didn’t work
No it’s no good
I kept on seeing her around this old neighborhood

Pre-Chorus

We marched round seven times
About your house…baby
Don’t make us try to break it down

Chorus

So I’ll wait for your sign, so throw down that red rope of Jericho
When will you join my side, and tell me the secrets that I’d never known
Yeah, I’ll wait for your sign, so throw down that red rope of Jericho
Yes I’ll wait for your sign, so thrown down that red rope of…

Verse 2

A busy girl
With busy guests
Entertaining all of their requests

I knock it once
I knock it twice
You answer saying I cannot pay the price

You seem so sure
But don’t presume
This little town has always had the room

So don’t you run
Or try to hide
Open up and let me come inside

Fir Tree Spies

Written By: Tyler Burns

Verse 1

We climb behind old man Russel’s garden
That’s where the poppies and some low branches grew
Then up eleven stories, every glass is magnifying
You ought to come sometime, you’re quite the view

Twelve-fifteen, still the prettiest thing that I’ve seen
That’s why you take tests on the top of that school
You blame the teachers, but I understand the situation
Who else could concentrate, with you in the room?

Pre-Chorus

But if there’s nothing to desire…what are you striving for?
Please take a look at me…
Don’t take the Buddhist way out now

Chorus

Fir Tree Spies
Fir Tree Spies
Spies…
Fir Tree Spies

Verse 2

Big brown eyes, so clear that you can see us
Dressed like romantics on these bark covered seats
Even though you’re smart, so keen
You play it dumb with simple questions…right down to your ABCs

They tried to keep you away, they tried to shadow your face
You should be out with your little group
But that’s not today; there’s no time to play
So we’ll stay here, eating pine nuts and raw chestnut soup

Monty Becker's Wine

“Monty Becker’s Wine”

Verse 1

Stop…don’t move. He can hear you stomp your feet to this tumultuous soul groove
Go…round back. There’s a perfect hiding spot behind the garden and lawn shack
Never had too much to drink before, but I’d never had a problem
Brandy’s too much sugar and gin’s a bore, we want something good to choose from
So we push on…
[SYNTH SOLO]
Be-hi-hi-hind the wall of ivy there’s a sliding door, doesn’t have a lock yet
I could do a Heitz 1974, do do yooooooou know what you’ll get?
Well I’m…

Pre-Chorus

So
Glad
I
Know
Where he keeps it in his cellar
You know we’ll be on cloud nine…drinking

Chorus

Monty Becker’s Wine
Monty Becker’s Wine

Verse 2

Can’t…run dry. He’s got every Martha’s Vineyard with a limitless supply
Will…admit. By now he knows our little plan, but still I think he enjoys it
I can just imagine what he’s added lately
Frankly I don’t think he even planned it safely
Twenty moving cameras and no power to see
Isn’t that a bit obvious for you and me
But I’m…

Bridge

In everything you do you need to trust,
Trust that someone’s watching
In everything you do you need to know,
Know that someone’s searched you
The opportunities
Of this life: ceaseless, never-ending
The man who takes the time to ask receives
So don’t decline…Monty Becker’s Wine

Stop the World

Written By: Tyler Burns

Verse 1

I think I might have a problem
I think you might know the key
These last few years held a trial in life
But no jury’s gonna’ hear my plea…

I thought I had all the answers
I thought I’d live so carefree
Some people live in a big hot tub
Guess the water’s just too warm for me…(yeah!)

Pre-Chorus

Find the key to the lock to my heart
Find the key to the lock to my soul
Won’t find anything if you don’t start (not yet)
Find the key of the lock to my soul (na-ha-hiy!)

Chorus

Stop the world, I want to get off now
Go somewhere, I think I’ll get off now
Stop the world, It’s just too fast for me
Stop the world, and set me somehow free

Verse 2

I’d go beyond Queens or Brooklyn
Under the depths of the sea
Right through the wet of a tropic land
Above the pumas in the chocolate trees

I’d see a feathery foxtail
Drifting over your head
Someplace that children dream about
When their heads get heavy, safe in warm beds…(yeah!)
