Well, I might as well just come out and say it… I’m going to the top. And - I’m going to do it with music that moves me. I’m going there with the full package and I want to meet and work with people who have the same standard. Contact me! One other important note - all of the music you hear on this page was created by myself. Right from the songs themselves (a couple of lyrics came from some good outside suggestions), the guitars, violins, vocals which are nearly all just one takers, arrangements, the okay for a home studio engineering, that was all me. This has been a full time job for me for the past 7 years despite the lack of evidence in the monetary state. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I spend my time honing my craft as a violinist, songwriter and singer with the rest devoted to networking and gigging. The last couple of years have been spent reinventing myself as an artist after my duo band, Kid Carson (www.kidcarsonmusic.com) split up - or at least went on an unscheduled, undefined hiatus. The product is what you hear and see on this page and is my best work to date. I finally feel like I’m fleshing out the picture of what I’ve been sketching in my head for years. It’s a great time!

I started playing the violin at the age of 5. My first performance as a ‘fiddler’ came at age 8. I had an 8 bar solo and when it came to be my turn I remember feeling the spotlight when something clicked. I started bouncing to the beat with a huge smile on my face enjoying the interaction with the audience. They gave it back to me and I was hooked. Later that summer I performed for 10 nights straight to crowds of 20,000 nightly as part of the ‘Young Canadians’, a song and dance company with the Calgary Stampede. I felt more at home on stage than anywhere else and it never changed.

At the age of 13 I returned from a 4 week tour of Japan and Thailand to perform as the solo guest artist with the Victoria Symphony. We performed the Am Vivaldi Concerto for two violins in the first half and then a special 15 minute fiddle medley in the second half, all with the support of a full size professional orchestra (thank you VSO!). Things felt like they were ready to take off. I couldn’t wait to quit school and hit the road (still kinda wish I had done just that). It came closer with an opportunity from Hollywood - be featured on the Jerry Lewis Telethon between Jason Alexander and Savion Glover. I mean - Wow!! Alas, months ticked by and several other wonderful opportunities such as performing in the Cayman Islands, a six week theatre tour of New Zealand as part of the production ‘Ireland’ led by former Irish Rover Will Millar, a summer with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (world champion orchestra whose alumni fill the top seats in orchestras around the world) and several trips to Nashville, my dream of quitting school and hitting the road full time wasn’t realized. Looking back it’s hard to say whether that was a bonus or a negative. Either way I believe that music directs my compass and guides me in the right direction as it did when life separated the band I had worked with throughout that time. A blessing in disguise, this cleared my artistic vision and reset my focus to find what it was that I really wanted to say through music.

I moved out and headed for the bigger music scene of Vancouver. I met some great people who were all jazz graduates and playing music that I had always enjoyed but never took part in. I formed a gypsy jazz project called ‘Fourth Street Django’ (www.fourthstreetdjango.com). My improvisation knowledge grew four fold and I was on track to finding my artistic voice. Along the way I continued to write songs which started to take on more of a rock flavour after years of trying to write Nashville country. Which brings me to where I am today still trying to write better songs and further define the sound in which to wrap them.

After recently receiving very positive feedback from none other than Canadian legend Jim Vallance, I think I’m right in feeling that things are starting to take shape. I’ll feel really good if my music means something to you in your life. This is the first unveiling of my solo work. I’m always open to feedback both positive and constructive and would love to hear from you.
