"Aliant Garage Band Contest"

Aliant gets rocking with a Garage Band Contest across Atlantic Canada
Globe And Mail @ CNW Group
HALIFAX, Nov. 29 /CNW/ - Aliant, Atlantic Canada's leading information and communications technology provider, today officially announced the provincial winners of its Garage Band contest, which is aimed at young Atlantic Canadians who are active in making music with their friends, family and neighbours.

The regional winners are Kristina Trites, Nova Scotia; Tyler Lombard, New Brunswick; The Chucky Danger Band, Prince Edward Island; and Rayfield, Newfoundland. Each of the winners will play the opening set in their province for the popular reggae/rock band Bedouin Soundclash's concert, which will perform in Halifax, Moncton, Charlottetown, and St. John's from November 30 to December 3.

"We had more than 100 amateur bands throughout Atlantic Canada submit their audio or video demos online at Aliant's youth portal," said Deanna Miller, Manager, Aliant Youth Marketing. "Aliant wants to demonstrate that we're listening to youth and focusing on what's relevant to them. We believe the Garage Band contest is a great way to accomplish that while thanking them for their continued support of our youth-focused products and services."

Selected audio and video demos of the bands are available online to all visitors courtesy of Aliant at www.aliant.net/youth101. Throughout December, visitors also will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite Aliant Garage Band. All voters will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of ten prize packs from Aliant and other music and fashion partners. The winning band or artist will receive the grand prize of a spot on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour.

Vans Warped Tour is a popular touring music and extreme sports festival, with a reputation for featuring up and coming artists. Bands such as blink-182, Limp Bizkit, and No Doubt all took part in the tour before making it big. Tour stops on the Canadian leg for 2005 included Vancouver, Calgary, Barrie (ON), Montreal and Quebec City.

The Aliant Garage Band contest officially launched in October and called for submissions from all amateur bands whose members are aged 25 or under. All submissions were reviewed by a regional panel of judges comprised of music industry professionals, including promoters and A&R label reps.

Feeling a bit camera shy

My name is Tyler Lombard. I am an award winning 18 year old singer/songwriter. I began playing classical guitar at the age of 12 and began writing my own songs at the age of 15. I recently was the New Brunswick winner of the Aliant Garage Band Competition. There was a winner chosen for each Atlantic province. As the NB representative I was able to open for Bedouin Soundclash. Each winner was chosen based on the quality of their musical submission. Since then I have been featured on the East Coast Music Show with Mark Roberts and Shift on CBC Radio. I am also working with Chris Grant (ECMA nominee) and Rob Crowell ( keyboard player and newest member of Matt Mays and El Torpedo) at Catfish studios in Halifax on material that I hope to release by the end of the year. My music is unique in the sense that my songs and stories are ones that can be related to by both adolescents and adults.
