On Monday, March 3, 2008 history was made. Tymara Spears, a Toledo native and choir director at Christian Community Church, was crowned the winner of the first ever Marvin Winans’ Survivor contest in Detroit, MI. The contest was an American Idol-like talent search for the next gospel star.
After preliminary auditions at Perfecting Church (where Marvin Winans is pastor), contest hopefuls were narrowed from over 200 to 10 finalists. Monday night’s final competition, held at the Marvin L. Winans Academy for the Performing Arts (also in Detroit), showcased the vocal skills of the 10 finalists. The singers were scored on stage presence & vocal talent by gospel recording artists J Moss & Cece Winans, along with Detroit Pistons’ announcer and radio personality John Mason.
The final competition consisted of 3 rounds. The first round Tymara performed Marvin Winans’ “To The Utmost Jesus Saves.” She easily advanced to the second round with 4 other finalists. Round two Tymara amazed the audience with “I Still Believe” which drew comments from Cece Winans that her voice was “flawless” and “perfect” and that "She is already in a cladd by herself." Tymara sailed through to the final round. In round 3, Tymara brought down the house with “Try” and cemented her hands down victory.
After receiving a $2500 cash prize, Tymara is now preparing to be featured in a live recording at Perfecting Church with Pastor Marvin L. Winans on June 15, 2008 (another prize of the contest). She also won tickets to the much anticipated “Perfecting Day Resurrection Sunday” concert on Easter Sunday featuring Ty Tribett, the Clark Sisters & Pastor Winans himself at the Fox Theatre in Detroit Michigan.

Tymara is a fresh new talent in the gospel music world delivering her powerful message through a unique style of "neo-soul gospel". This includes music that is nothing short of the hotness, but also a message that is personal, sincere and most importantly, the truth.
Since the age of 2 on the steps of the Christian Community Church, Tymara has been giving all honor and praise to the Lord through her voice. Currently, she is singing background with J. Moss, having already shared the stage with gospel legends Mary Mary, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Pastor Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell, Rodrick Dixon, and even opening for both CeCe Winans and Pastor Marvin Sapp.
In March 2008, Tymara won the Marvin L. Winans Survivor Competition in Detroit, MI. As a result of the victory, Tymara will be appearing on the Perfecting Praise and Worship album recorded live at Perfecting Church in Detroit. In July of 2009, Tymara became the first winner of the Gospel Star Search competition held in Kansas City, MO during Bishop Mark C. Tolbert's Life Changers Conference, and is now working toward the completion of the album '... Much Is Expected', making sure to always keep God's will first, and focus on His direction for her ministry.
