Bio
You know when you get a really good song stuck in your head for hours, but you don’t mind because you like it so much? Tynan Groves writes songs like that. He's always been a sensitive artist-type, and his lyrics reflect everything from growing up in small-town Alberta (and now living there again, after a 3-year stint in Toronto), to observations about the seemingly mundane, to helpless outrage at global stupidity.
Tynan's a musician, through and through. He started playing when he was a 14-year-old Cobain fanatic, went through two high school rock bands (one of which, Loom, released an independent LP in 1999), and finally learned to read music in college. He trained with Ralf Buschmeyer (Mount Royal College, Calgary) and Ted Quinlan (Humber College, Toronto), but cites many people as artistic influences, including Stravinsky, Wilco, Hunter S Thompson, Bill Frisell, and many more.
His wife, Shelly, who studied violin at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, often joins Tynan in studio and on stage - when she's not busy playing with Calgary band The Axis of Conversation. In addition to teaching violin to budding rockers, she's been known to write the occasional bio and design a press kit here & there, but would be thrilled if Tynan was scooped up by an excellent manager & sweet little record label....
