Bio
Tyrell Johnson or Better known as Maki has been involved in the Calgary Urban Hip Hop scene for over eight years. Driven by his passion for authentic music, Tyrell always works on creating music that is both inspired and original. In 2005 Tyrell co-created Victims of Poverty (VOP) a rap duo originally featuring himself and Calgary Hip Hop Artist C.Wills whose name represents the struggle faced by both the members during their upbringing. VOP have been able to work with multiple Calgary artists giving them an opportunity to develop themselves as creative artists. In addition to performing at many local Calgary Festivals, VOP opened for hip hop heavyweights like Kardinall Offishal, Choclair, Dl Incognito and Rae-Kwon of Wu-Tang Clan. Taking a little time to reflect and put it into words has brought about Tyrell’s upcoming EP “I Feel Like…” which will be available this summer.
