Bio

Atlanta’s Uncle Daddy and The Kissin’ Cousins got together in 2007, and as the Hickey Family they quickly developed a modern, lo-fi jug band sound inspired by everything from Hank Williams to Hank III, sitting in the jailhouse to riding the rails, mountain cabin porches to big city club stages. Uncle Daddy (Dirk Hays) sings and keeps it clean on the washtub bass; on vocals and banjo is Dickie Hickey (Tricia Chenard). Li’l Red (Carolynn Ladd) bangs the cans, rakes the washboard, and rocks the harmonica. Ichabod (Daniel Chanin) keeps the tune on guitar and Malachi (Terry Boling) rips it up on the musical saw. Cousin Dew (Bryant Upchurch) bangs on his wrenchophone, an old gas tank, and other homemade percussion-type things. With a blend of original songs and surprising cover interpretations, Uncle Daddy and The Kissin’ Cousins has made appearances at private events, festivals, and clubs playing with a variety of acts from solo singer-songwriters to Southern Culture on the Skids.
