ULTRAMEGASUPADEADLY aka UMSD is an artist/producer/dj who has been working in mixed mediums for over 10 years. In the late 90’s he released records as Grasscutter and was resident at the legendary Sheffield superclub NY SUSHI where he played alongside everyone from Goldie to Andy C.He was the first resident for Drum and Bass arena’s internet radio shows and broadcasts and also ran their first ”Full Spectrum” events in Sheffield where he’s from.
As well as clocking up dj slots in all the major clubs in Sheffield from Gatecrasher to the Tuesday club alongside his Mc Ruth Joy(Krush-House arrest) he was developing his skillz in various areas in the digital domain as well as studying jazz guitar and gigging with various local groups on the six strings. One “form” of music was never going to be enough for this man,and it was from here that he started developing a wide array of techniques to say what he wants to say.
He first combined his love of guitar and electronica with early Formation records releases on the “Jazz and Bass” Series,then in 2006 he released his own electronic rock album-’We are the black lights” on his own label(Now Recordings)and digitally on iTunes to critical acclaim.He toured this as a 5 piece band and did many gigs from london to scotland-Tuts to Barfly via Fibbers gathering many friends and allies in the process.
This in turn led to the current incarnation-and a logical progression as his vista spread from just music to music and moving images-a one man audio-visual show thats both intense and beautiful,poignant and playful,dark and uplifting.
An ULTRAMEGASUPADEADLY show involves UMSD playing his guitar/hammered dulcimer(ancient persian instrument)/laptop/Modified kids keyboards/and his iPhone while he sings his songs and screams his rymes!All his songs have videos which he makes and these project over him giving the effect of one part Hawkwind on pcp and two parts a sondclash between The Prodigy,Queens Of The Stone Age,Benga and Skream,David Bowie,Pendulum,Beck,and Moderat/Modeselektor.
The first limited edition ULTRAMEGASUPADEADLY ep is a totally unique set of 144 handmade cd covers, each made from different material,containing 7 tracks of music that give you a glimpse of the ground he covers-These came out mid 2009,and the album is to follow in 2010.
He has just set up a new contemporary electronic music website/forum for Sheffield electronic artists called "MIXED IN SHEFFIELD"(www.mixedinsheffield.co.uk)
The launch event for this,in April 09 in Sheffield in association with Sensoria festival of music and film,was a massive success,and there was a second and third event in july and november 09-see www.mixedinsheffield.co.uk for details. the event on 21st november to celebrate the launch of the remix album”Industrial in Nature”which he has curated.This album is a compilation of 30 remixes of contemporary Sheffield bands by the current top Sheffield electronic artists.Not only that but he has done a 360 Dj mix of 40 electronic Sheffield artists which he’s giving away free as a podcast download via the new website(which you’re on),as well as the “Industrial in Nature” album also being available free from this site!
By doing this ULTRAMEGASUPADEADLY is representing Sheffield electronic music around the world as well as pushing his own artistic endeavours as UMSD.
Finally he is also Remixing various artists and producing other artists and bands from his studio in Sheffield(The Boom Boom Womb)These credits include such people as Sarah J(Massive attack)The Violet May,and local noir rokkers Double No No – he even finds time to run his own weekly blues boogie and rock n roll night (The Boom Boom Room)where he dj’s pure rock n roll from 50’s classics such as Howlin Wolf,John Lee hooker,Muddy Waters through Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Doors,Ac/Dc through to the present day with bands like Black rebel motorcycle club,and queens of the stone age.

Grime,Rock,Dubstep,Hip hop,Jazz,Electro,Drum n Bass,Techno-all with a unique cinematic twist and mixture of darkly uplifting textural vocals and council estate rymin.Kind of like John Barry,Josh Homme,Kraftwerk,Liam Howlett,Benga,Aphex Twin,Fly lo, Faith No More,Goldie and Mastodon getting locked in a room and fed acid soaked hash cakes for 3 days and sat in front of a computer with a load of pirate music softwear to experiment on....

Somewhere between Dillinja,Modeselektor,Queens Of The Stone Age,The Streets,David Bowie,The Prodigy,Squarepusher,Muse,Beck,Millionaire,Eivind Aarset,Pendulum,Joker and Alice Coltrane!
