This Album is Awesome
by lemusiquefreq-May 9, 2009
Very exotic and unusual mix of styles and instruments. I really like the way the sax, bamboo flute and guzheng go with the psychedelic guitar. Great musicians and solos.
Fantastic sound!

Played this at my dinner party the other night. It was a hit!! It's simply wonderful, upbeat music! Even better live! If only I could afford to have them play in my living room =)
It's so different it's hard to describe. The best I can do is:
Beautiful and utterly unique!

What an original sound. Really fine musicians, the Sax, Flute, Guzheng and Psychedelic guitar...wonderful! Exotic mix of fiery improv with peaceful, ambient sections to balance it. Takes you to a different world. Highly recommended.

New Album for ULTRA WORLD X-TET...

MOON AND LEGEND

This music is truly amazing. Exotic, soulful, trippy, it defines a new San Francisco sound. A mix of Jazz, Psychedelic, Chinese, Funk, Blues, Rock, Middle Eastern and Ambient textures, Ultra World X-tet performs an exciting fusion of East and West for the 21st Century. The group includes Sax and Bamboo Flutes, Bass, Percussion, Gu-Zheng (Chinese Zither) and Electric Guitar. The group's brand of high energy Psychedelic World Jazz casts an electrifying spell.

The album was recorded at S.F. Soundworks and Rocky Outcrop Studios in S.F. and was produced and arranged by Gary Schwantes who also plays Saxophones, Guitar, Keyboards and Bamboo Flute. Additional magic is added by reknowned Guzheng virtuoso Weishan Liu, S.F. Symphony Percussionist Ray Froehlich and L.A. Session Veteran David Keif on Bass, as well as Guzheng artist Winnie Wong. Moon and Legend was Mixed by Justin Lieberman and Mastered by Ken Lee. Cover artwork is by Antar Irvin.

Bio

The band originated and developed their sound working a regular gig at a small jazz club in downtown San Francisco. Word of mouth from this gig led to other opportunities, including concerts at Herbst Theater, performances at S.F. City Hall, events for the S.F. Symphony, and other high profile performances. We have just released our first CD, MOON AND LEGEND which is starting to receive some airplay on Independent and College FM. The X-tet's performances are a colorful blend of Jazz, Chinese, Psychedelic, Funk, Blues, Latin, Middle Eastern and Ambient textures. This is a fresh, new San Francisco sound. Check it out!

The group is available with 4-8 musicians.
Instrumentation available: Saxophone/Bamboo Flutes, Bass, Drums/Percussion, Guzheng (Chinese Zither) Electric Guitar, Pipa (Chinese Lute), Latin Percussion.
