Uncle John

Uncle John

 Kansas City, Missouri, USA
BandAmericanaSinger/Songwriter

Twisted sensitive singer songwriter poet with a bad attitude. Think Paul Simon after a month long bender with the four B's: Booze, Baudelaire, Bukowski and Bruce.

Biography

Uncle John is generally not a performing act. Rather it is a vehicle for producing and putting forward demos of the music I write. Generally I do all the composition, arranging, vocals and instruments.

Lyrics

It's Too Late

Written By: John Grassman

V1
You call me crying on the telephone and say
"I thought that we were going to stay friends"
And though I don't know what your motives really are
I'm sure your means don't justify your ends.
V2
You see we played this game so many times before
And I'd just about recovered from my broken dreams
Now in the name of love you've come back to me for more
Why should I set myself up for your schemes?

Chorus
'cause It's Too Late for love that's gone
Though friendship seemed a pleasant plan
Yes It's Too Late my trust is gone
I won't be used again.

musical break
chorus
Well It's Too Late for love that's gone
Though friendship seemed a pleasant plan
It just won't work my trust is gone
I won't be used again.
V3
Remember all those times that you ran away from me
You'd be lost in space, but wouldn't budge an inch
We'd be in the same room, You'd be a million miles away
But you knew I'd always be there in a pinch.
chorus
Well It's Too Late for love that's gone
Though friendship seemed a pleasant plan
It just won't work my trust is gone
I won't be used again.
Yes It's Too Late for love that's gone
Though friendship seemed a pleasant plan
It just won't work my trust is gone
I won't be used again

Haven't We

Written By: John Grassman

Haven’t We

Haven’t we played this game one time before?
Where you got drunk and screamed “Get out!”
I walked out the door.
Haven’t we played this game one time before?

V1
Our past was only prologue to the ugly mess we made
You made the rules and like a fool
I stayed around and played.
Now we sit here smoking cigarettes
Like two strangers on a bus
A scene that would be funny
If it was anyone but us
For the love we shared beyond compare
Had always seen us through
And though we fight most every night
I can’t stop loving you

Haven’t we played this game one time before?
Where you got drunk and screamed “Get out!”
I walked out the door.
Haven’t we played this game one time before?

I think it’s time that we leave this love alone
You won’t be hearing me calling on your phone
I think it’s time that we leave this love alone
You won’t be hearing me calling on your phone
Haven’t we played this game one time before?

V2
The things you said now fill my head
Your thoughts can be so cruel
The time will come you’ll love someone
He’ll treat you like a fool
You won’t resist those lips you’ve kissed
A dancing bear you’ll be
The subtle twist in all of this
Is then you will be me.
Or are you much too shielded love?
A fortress at a glance
Will the weapons you have wielded
Somehow keep you from the dance?
Haven’t we played this game one time before?

I think it’s time that we leave this love alone
You won’t be hearing me calling on your phone
I think it’s time that we leave this love alone
You won’t be hearing me calling on your phone

Haven’t we played this game one time before?
Where you got drunk and screamed “Get out!”
I walked out the door.
Haven’t we played this game one time before?

V1
I'm a-leaving here at midnight, gonna catch That Hell-Bound Train
I know you're gonna miss me, baby, 'cos I won't be back again
And though I should be feelin' sorry got nobody else I can blame
And I haven't got a single worry 'bout riding That Hell-Bound Train.

(Chor)
Well it won't be long, I'll be done gone
I don't give a damn if it's right or wrong
Play my git-tar
Gonna sing my song
Today yeah

V2
Been sittin’ here drinkin’ and thinkin’ ‘bout riding That Hell-Bound Train
And I got me a notion gonna get me a promotion on That Hell-Bound Train
And though I may be stuck forever this is gonna be my claim to fame
They're gonna make me conductor gonna put me in charge of That Hell-Bound Train

(Chor)
Well it won't be long
And I'll be done gone
I don't give a damn if it's right or wrong
I'll play my git-tar
Gonna sing my song
Today yeah

(Bridge)
My mind’s made up
I’m traveling light
No bags to pack
Just this old guitar
And a bottle of booze
Is gonna see me right tonight
You know I'm gonna get tight tonight

My mind’s made up
Don’t call my name
I won’t look back
The only answer you’ll hear
Is the sound of the wheels of the train
Clacking on down that lonesome track, Jack.
I wont be back

(Musical break)

(Chor)
It won't be long, I'll be done gone
I don't give a damn if it's right or wrong
I'm gonna play my git-tar
And sing my song
Today yeah

V3
I feel like I’m heading for glory, gonna ride that Hell-Bound Train
I know you're gonna miss me, baby, when I'm riding That Hell-Bound Train
And though I should be feelin' sorry I'll be riding That Hell-Bound Train
I haven't got a single worry 'bout riding That Hell-Bound Train.

(Chor)
Well it won't be long,
And I'll be done gone
I don't give a damn if it's right or wrong
I'll play my git-tar
Gonna sing my song
Today Yeah

All Aboard!
