Uncle Nestor

Uncle Nestor

 Vancouver, British Columbia, CAN

Genre? Southern Rock / Cowboy Rock, Country-fried rock ‘n roll. More melodious than the average rock band-louder than your average country band. Our live shows inspire hoarse throats, tired legs, and ringing ears. Our video for “Woman Like the Wind” featured on MuchMoreMusic®.

The Band:
Uncle Nestor is a four piece cowboy rock band consisting of guitarist/vocalist Oless Pasichnyk, bassist/vocalist Steve Halfnights, drummer Chris Waldner, and fiddler Nikki Hildebrand.   The boys have performed together since late 2000, developing a reputation for inspiring live shows which leave audiences with hoarse throats and tired legs.  Bringing Nikki on board in early 2008 has only taken the party to the next level, putting the exclamation point on "Country-Fried Rock 'n' Roll!"
The Music:
Accomplished songwriters, Uncle Nestor plays country-inspired rock that has been described as Blue Rodeo on acid at a party thrown by Waylon and Willie. Six and twelve string electric guitars growl over a solid rhythm section, while Nikki’s fiddle adds the pretty parts on top. Oless’s baritone lead vocal backed by Steve’s harmonies are a signature of the Uncle Nestor sound. Musical influences range from Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Blue Rodeo, Drive-by Truckers, and Corb Lund to Weezer, Rheostatics, and Neil Young.

Over the Fence

Written By: Uncle Nestor

Over the Fence – Key of E

Well, cosmically speaking,
I’ve been down and out on my feet yeah,
I’ve been squinting through a philosophized window,
At someplace I ought to be.
Well I think I’ll go home,
Sit there and get high,
Call you up,
Together we’re gonna fly.

Whoa no, there’s the glow,
Everything’s pushing me to go,
Over the fence.

You all know Raymond,
He’s got himself a ‘vette.
He’s cruising for manliness,
But he ain’t found it yet.
Now listen Raymond,
You can’t do much about the size;
Quit cruisin’ that boulevard,
Cause there’s no one left to buy.

Whoa no, there’s the glow,
Everything’s pushing Ray to go,
Over the fence.

The road is long,
And the rain has soaked my coat.
I’m almost there,
But I got a long way to go.
They say that the apple,
Shouldn’t fall far from the tree.
But I hope that it does
Because I just gotta be free.

Whoa no, there’s the glow,
Everything’s pushing me to go,
Over the fence

Set List

We are quite versatile in terms of set length and content. We have played anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 1/2 hours. We do a solid set of originals with a few choice covers thrown in for fun. We like to mix a number of songs off the album like Bones Dry, Mercedes Bends, Over the Fence, and Woman Like the Wind with new favourites like Fast Food Jane, and Fort Jolly. Covers usually include rocked-out versions of country standards like Folsom Prison Blues, Man of Constant Sorrow, and Mountain Dew. We like to keep the dance floor hoppin'.
