Uncle Pumpkin - Nowhere To Go But Up e.p.

Artist: Uncle Pumpkin
Release: Nowhere To Go But Up e.p.
# of Tracks: 5

Uncle Pumpkin is a NYC rock band determined to bring back the melodies, hooks, and musicality of the 60’s and 70’s, while maintaining a modern twist of their own. There’s a definite nod or two to rock legends such as the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, but the subject matter is more current, ranting about the current state of the music business, restless high school days, and complicated relationships. Band members have toured with comedians Jim Breuer, Dave Chapelle, musical legends Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan, as well as world-renowned of tabla player Zakir Hussein, and with vibes legend Gary Burton. The goal of the band is simple: to create fun, catchy rock tunes sprinkled with lush melodies, memorable hooks, and interesting arrangements that rock.

IndiePro Comments: Uncle Pumpkin delivers original and catchy rock tunes, nicely textured with funky vintage keys, solid drums and bass lines, and heartfelt, yet sometimes hilarious, lyrics. Combining musical influences from 60’s American and British rock, 70’s classic rock, hints of 80’s pop rock, and 90’s garage, Uncle Pumpkin has masterfully and successfully created a sound all their own. We are looking forward to the release of their full-length debut in 2007.

Bio

Uncle Pumpkin is a new rock band out of NYC determined to bring back the melodies, hooks, and musicality of the 60's and 70's, while maintaining a modern twist of their own. There's a definite nod or two to rock legends such as the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, but the subject matter is more current, ranting about the current state of the music business, restless high school days, and complicated relationships.

The band is led by singer/songwriter/bassist Dan Grennes, who's been a veteran in the NYC scene for over 10 years, touring with comedians Jim Breuer and Dave Chappelle, playing on and off Broadway with Mario Cantone in "Laugh Whore" and David Bryan's (Bon Jovi) "Toxic Avenger the Musical", and performing with countless bands and singer/songwriters as a sideman.

On one of the two guitarists is Michael Aarons, another NYC veteran.
Michael has played with many household names such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Chaka Khan, Liza Minnelli, and Michael McDonald to name a few, and is a sought after guitarist on Broadway and beyond.

Sean Driscoll is a versatile guitarist/vocalist who plays everything from his own complex, original jazz compositions, to country and rock and roll. Sean’s credits include performances with (world-renowned tabla player) Zakir Hussein and (vibes legend) Gary Burton.
He does double duty in Uncle Pumpkin, doubling on vintage keyboard and synth patches to create other textures and round out the band's sound.

Glenn Robertson is the youngest talent in the band, lending his skills on drums. He and Dan have played together as a rhythm section for years as part of the American Music Award winning Bomb Squad featuring Jen Durkin. Also showing versatility, Glenn is a drumline instructor as well as a busy performer with latin/jazz, funk, and rock bands throughout the Northeast.

The goal of the band is simple: to create fun, catchy rock tunes sprinkled with lush melodies, memorable hooks, and interesting arrangements that rock. Then bring them to the stage for an unforgettable show. The band is not concerned with following any of the latest trends of grungy rock that’s angry for no reason, or watered down punk pop that seems to all come from the same cookie cutter, and contains more cliché’s than a Barry Manilow ballad. The rest is up to you. Are you ready for a change?
