Bio
Born in Northern Ontario in Sault Ste. Marie, Steve has spent most of his adult life active as a performer or staging technician. Steve went on to study both Theatre Tech; and, later Film Studies, at Ryerson University, in Toronto. As well as devoting himself to songwriting and producing; Steve has been developing his skills as an actor and filmmaker.
Over the past eighteen years, Derek Stephen McPhail has produced seven "Uncle Steve" CD projects; all through his home grown company, BEER WEAZL PRODUCTIONS. (http://www.beerweazl.com)
inspired by the jokes of the Canajun comedians, The Mackenzie Brothers", Uncle Steve came to describe their combination of folk, country, blues, rock & alternative music as "Canajun Blues"; different from the various versions of "Mercan Blues" found south of the border.
the name of the production company is inspired by a band joke: that "Uncle Steve" is doomed to poverty & obscurity, as their biggest fans are "beerweazls"; by definition, being bar patrons who always have a beer to drink, but never have any money. of course, beerweazls, though delighted to check out our CDs; always seem offended to be expected to actually pay for one.
