Cool, courteous, and appreciative guys who are very passionate about music. Very easy and enjoyable to work with this band. Willing to travel far and self-promote a gig. The music is influenced by a mixture of Rise Against, Alexisonfire, Four Year Strong, Rancid, Drive A, and Taking Back Sunday.

Biography

Introduction:

Under Influenced is a Milwaukee area punk band that was started in June 2009 with a reformation in August 2010. With their roots deep in punk soil, the band draws influences from numerous sources in alternative and popular rock alike. Despite the irony of its name, the band is proud of its exciting, upbeat punk sounds which include a variety of pop hooks and alternative guitar sounds to create music that is both unique and classic at the same time.

Biography:

Biographies are most often very long, boring, and narcissistic literary works, so I will try to keep this as brief as possible to prevent lethargy. My name is John Bajorek. My friends Sam Tom and Kevin Kattner, who previously dabbled in a high school band, asked me in May of 2009 to play bass in a new band they were starting that they wanted to be serious about. Mind you the only other instrument I’ve played in my life was piano as a child, which wasn’t too pretty. With their help and the help of YouTube videos, I eventually figured out what I was doing.

We started playing covers of bands such as Blink 182, Nirvana, and Green Day, and managed to crank out a very basic original. We discovered it was not in our favor to have a drummer vocalist so we recruited an old friend, Ryan Renkas, to play drums – this allowed Sam to sing and play guitar as needed. It took about 6 months of practice, songwriting, and playing house parties before we felt comfortable playing an authentic live show. Oddly enough, the first show we played was at The Rave Bar as an opener for Atreyu and The Used on February 9th, 2010. We were very nervous but did our best. The feeling was overwhelming, and seeing people getting into the music was a huge boost of confidence. It was at that point that we realized that we had to keep going strong.

Over the next few months we played as many shows as we could get in on in the area, some of them even in Illinois which was really rad. During this time, we had recorded some of our creations in my basement using a little studio device we invested in. The sound quality wasn’t the best, but it was a way to get our music heard across the world thanks to the internet, which was an awesome feeling. To excite that feeling, we decided to professionally record a four song demo at Cherry Pit Studios, which was very close to home, in late June – and boy did they sound awesome! That demo was called “We Could Call It Anything” because the genre of all our songs was so obscure that we did not know what to call it exactly – we settled with alternative/punk eventually. The summer kept us extremely busy with shows in both Chicago and Milwaukee, but as it came to an end, so too did our time with our drummer. Due to personal reasons, Ryan had to leave the band in August; the details are lengthy and boring so I will leave that out.

In order to find a new drummer, we met in secrecy with an underground music intelligence agent named Craig. He put our band on a search list and shortly after we received a response from a few drummers. We interrogated (jammed with) each one and discovered the perfect one. Enter Paul Tyree. He is a couple years younger than us, but his skill blew us away (and still does). We got to work right away, practicing often and even cranking out some new tunes. We booked out the fall season with some awesome shows, and made a trip back to Cherry Pit Studios as well. By recording the two new songs and recording/re-recording some of our classics, we were humbly ready to present our debut EP. It took a few weeks to create our very own album art (thanks to Kevin), but then we were truly ready. The culmination of nearly a year and a half of hard work was the Social Heart Attack EP, which we proudly made available on iTunes November 16th, 2010.

Since our start, we have played over 70 live shows. We recently signed with a local publisher called Cherry Pit Studios (the same place we record at). We are currently formulating a debut full length album to release during the summer of 2013 with which we hope to carry out a tour. It is currently the winter of 2012-2013, and we are still going strong with shows, songwriting, etc. This is where I will end the bio at last. But of course before doing so, I need to thank everyone who has ever helped us out and continues to do so. Also, thank you to our fans from all over the world for listening to us. It means so much to us during this arduous life of music that words alone cannot express our gratitude. Without all of you, Under Influenced doesn’t exist. Thank you for reading this and stay tuned for info on what we will be up to in the future!

Lyrics

Against All Reason

Written By: Under Influenced

V1:
Waves break upon ourselves like castles made of sand.
Will you pull me out of this undertow if I give you my hand?
Somehow we'll find our way, and you might understand, the only way we'll leave this place is with blood-soaked dripping hands.

Pre-Chorus/Chorus:
I don't know how much longer.
How high's the sky? I swear I'll tear it down tonight.
This hand will sink through your hands.
My will won't break. My will won't break under the light.

V2:
Corruption bleeds out of your veins, onto the blackened ground.
Corrosion in its very roots your temple crumbles down.
Pieces falling from the sky crash with thunderous sound.
Buried for one thousand years, forgotten until found.

Bridge:
So look inside this heart of mine.
Will we survive buried alive?
You always lied, and I caught you, I caught you.
I will survive. I won't be buried alive.

V1:
Don't tell me what you think of me.
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.
Write me off like I'm some kind of freak.
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.
What's wrong with this society?
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.
What's wrong with being who I want to be?
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.

Pre-Chorus:
Don't tell me what to think.
You took everything from me.
Don't tell me how to feel.
But you can't take my pride.
So give it all you've got.
You took everything from me.
And give it all to me.
But you can't take my pride.

Chorus:
I can't take this, I can't take this anymore.
Baby girl has the world, got you down? Oh no!
Keep that smile for awhile, I'll keep you safe and sound.

V2:
Try to escape conformity.
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.
Because I'm not what you want to see.
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.
How can I break the anxiety?
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.
The reason why we don't agree.
I don't care, I don't care how you label me.

Final Chorus:
I don't think there's anything, anything left inside of me.
I don't think there's anything, anything left that I don't see.
Baby girl has the world, got you down? Oh no!
Keep that smile for awhile, I'll keep you safe and sound.

Breaking Point

Written By: Under Influenced

V1:
I keep running from my past, but somehow I still haven’t crashed without you.
Were we meant to live this way or swing our lives away to stay? I don’t know.
Could you say which words were true so I can make these skies go blue?
I can’t seem to let go of the wheel. You can have control if I can’t steer.
Chorus:
We’ve reached the breaking point. Our stressed relationships are.
With no one left to hear us. Long beautiful adventures with.
We’ve reached the breaking point. Exquisite highs and dreary lows.
With no one left to hear our song.
V2:
You keep running from your past, but somehow you still haven’t crashed without me.
Should we take these trails they’ve laid or somewhere else for us to blaze? I don’t know.
Were we meant to stay the same? I wonder if we’ll ever change.
I can’t seem to let go of the wheel. You can have control if I can’t steer.
Bridge:
I can’t feel anything. I can’t feel anything.
So take these trembling hands of mine. Hold me close for comfort and tell me what I’m supposed to find. I don’t know what I’m after. And look inside this heart of mine. I’m beaten up black and blue. So take these trembling hands of mine. I don’t know why I’m after you.

Kevin Is A Hipster

Written By: Under Influenced

V1
The same old road we follow… why don’t we make our own?
Why go? Why stay? Living from day to day.
The world plays tricks on me. Or am I fool myself?
Tomorrow or today, I don’t care what you say.
Pre Chorus
And I know nothing is wrong with me.
I know.
Unlock this door and let me breathe.
Just let me go.
Let’s take this back now from the start.
Just let me breathe.
And this won’t be free.
Chorus
I don’t know why we live and die.
It’s just the same old song.
Under this sky is where we lie.
It’s just the same old song.
V2
We lie.
We lie.
I travel far and wide to try to dodge the sky,
But with all of the regret there is nowhere to hide.
All these unanswered questions. How could I be so blind?
Reality hits me now; everything I need is right here.
Bridge
So let me listen to the words that keep me going strong, the words that fit into the same old song.
What does this life require of me? What am I meant to be? My search to know what’s right will go straight till dawn.

Solemn Swear

Written By: Under Influenced

V1:
Would you like if I die?
With crashed cars and broken hands, we still move on and make amends.
Chorus:
Please don’t leave me in the rain. You can’t escape, you can’t escape, you can’t escape ‘cause this prison cell’s you home.
All these drugs won’t seize the pain. You can’t escape, you can’t escape, you can’t escape ‘cause this prison cell’s you home.
Please stop by on your way home. You can’t escape, you can’t escape, you can’t escape ‘cause this prison cell’s you home.
So I don’t have to feel alone. You can’t escape, you can’t escape, you can’t escape ‘cause this prison cell’s you home.
V2:
Break, break my arm. Let the rain fall down, let the rain fall down.
Crashed cars, a building fire, and I lie dying in the sand. It’s too dark to see this place, but that’s all right ‘cause its image I can’t stand. So take me home out of the rain, strike a match and we’ll burn it all away. There’s nothing left, to regret, face down on the cold and black cement.
I won’t take this anymore, and I won’t be pushed down to the floor. I’ll let you know what you need to hear, and I’ll make my voice be heard loud and clear.
Bridge:
With the image of an angel, you try to blind me, not try to guide me.

This Is What We're Fighting For

Written By: Under Influenced

V1
Back’s breaking. Heart’s shaking. I can’t breathe. I just need someone to help me while I’m drowning, and keep me here afloat.
Let’s take this outside so I can breathe a little. Don’t think there’s any way that you could be right. Don’t be afraid now if you’re caught in the middle, this could all be what you’ve wanted.
Chorus
I can’t keep standing still for any longer. I know that this is what we’re fighting for. I’ll try to hold my head above the water, keep your head – I don’t think I can.
V2
Cold alone. Broken home. Screams conclude something lewd. They say the writing on the wall said, “get the fuck out now!”
If no one else cares, then I can wait a little. Don’t think that anyone can be all right now. If you’re the only one, then this could take awhile ‘cause I can’t idle for much longer.
Bridge
So say something, just save me. Why can’t we start this over? Say something that I need. Is this world getting colder?
No more thoughts of the days we’ve lost. You can’t outrun what’s undone, so you fight for the song that’s unsung.

Searching For Signal

Written By: Under Influenced

I can’t take, I can’t take this. What’s wrong with this simple bliss?
Feeling we, we’ve lost our way. Someone must, must guide our way.
You can’t take this from me!
Take it back just one time, take it back, I don’t mind. The mess we made, the mess of me.
Don’t let go, just hold on, don’t let go, just respond. Please don’t say it again, please don’t say it’s the end.
That’s when you know a sense of urgency is lost in everybody’s voice. In their hearts are desperate cries, they’re longing to be saved.
Don’t ever let them try to change who you are inside today. Breathe slow, just wait, one day you’ll have a say.
Let’s stop and, let’s stop and think. What’s gone in, gone in a blink.
We cry, cry out in shame. Although we’re, we’re not to blame.
You can’t take this from me!
Stand up for your beliefs, stand up for what you see. Don’t become what you hate, don’t become that mistake.
Realize they’re all gone, realize who you are.
My voice is, it’s wasted. It falls on these deaf ears. These echoes are answers I scream into silence.
My voice is, it’s wasted. It falls on these deaf ears. These echoes are answers I scream into silence.
My voice is, it’s wasted. It falls on these deaf ears. These echoes are answers I scream into silence.
That’s when you know a sense of urgency is lost in everybody’s voice. In their hearts are desperate cries, they’re longing to be saved.
Don’t ever let them try to change who you are inside today. Breathe slow, just wait, one day you’ll have a say.
That’s when you know a sense of urgency is lost in everybody’s voice. In their hearts are desperate cries, they’re longing to be saved.

A Heartbeat Is A Sound

Written By: Under Influenced

We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
A heartbeat is a sound, but where can one be found?
A tremor to a chill, disguises guide his will.
Stand up, defend, our swords won’t bend. Their eyes close.
Ignite the sky, our sins won’t hide. We’re going, we’re going.
I know there’s nothing left to change. There’s nothing left, nothing left to change.
I feel there’s no one left to save. There’s no one left.
Aspirations become dim, desperation settles in.
As the gravity unfolds, the future still remains untold.
Blackout, white lies, endgame, retry. Blackout, white lies, endgame, retry.
I know there’s nothing left to change. There’s nothing left, nothing left to change.
I feel there’s no one left to save. There’s no one left.
We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
We’re going, we’re going, we’re going straight till dawn!
