Island Faith Ministries Inc was founded in 2004 as a literary and performing arts entity that uses the cultural conduits of theatre, spoken word poetry, music and other art forms to minister to the masses. Under the leadership the leadership of poet/playwright/producer Berwick “Underscore” Augustin, the company has ventured into numerous aspects of the arts. Berwick is the founder of the monthly spoken word event, P.H.I.R.S.T. IMPRESSIONZ (2002-present) and has received cultural awards for his artistic works from Miami-Dade County Mayors Alex Penelas (2003) and Carlos Alvarez (2006). As a director of Proverbs Drama Ministry in Miami for 5 years, Berwick has written, produced, directed and acted in numerous stage productions. As a playwright, his plays reveal the true essence of reality by fusing his visionary mind with the power of interpreting hands. His most successful play, Libere Liberis received a City of Miami bicentennial grant in 2004. He was a theatre finalist for The Arsht Center for The Performing Arts’ Miami-Made commissioning process in 2008. The company looks forward to a cutting edge future that will integrate pieces of the arts, spirituality and multiculturalism to produce well blended experiences for the international community.
