Understory Project is alt/rock band hailing from atop the Chicago rock scene. The live shows are hard-hitting, and captivating. And their down to earth yet goofy personalities allow them to create a relationship with any audience. Bring Understory Project to your town.

Biography

Hailing from Chicago, Understory Project offers a new unique sound to the music scene. It only seems logical to assume that in early 2002, when next door neighbors Evan Foster, Dave Rozkuszka, and Jesse Skolmoski formed Zone 145 (the bands previous name), music was something they fell in love with. (Bassist Ryan Carey joined the band one year later in 2003). Fast- forwarding to 2007 the band has taken their love for music and has grown to form their original sound. With influences ranging from Incubus, Muse, to Dave Matthews Band and Radiohead, Understory Project has managed to take these influences and use them to create a hard-hitting, unique, and compelling sound followed by a captivating live show. Hitting venues such as the Double Door, The Note, Stage 83, and many other local venues has allowed Understory Project to continue to evolve and grow as a band.
The summer of 2006 was an interesting summer for Understory Project. Our lead singer, Evan, was diagnosed with lymphoma and we had to stop playing music until he was finished with chemotherapy, for once music became a second priority in our lives. Evan is in remission and now it is our time to hit the scene.
The dedication to Understory Project is an integral part of each of the members lives; it is something they want to do as a career, and will pursue as a life long dream.

Ride It

Written By: Understory Project (Evan Foster)

Heart rate escalting, pasts vice has been let in. Dig like a fourty-niner, today your the mines miner. Hey betray the grey. Catch a ride on the cerebral train, it's locamotive strong but the ekg's are faint.

Hey, hey, hey, the pill is popped now won't you ride it.
Hey, hey, hey, the pill is popped now don't you fight it.

Black holes, dialating, resting under wrinkled skin. Hey it's time for redesign, perceptions interwined, my ears see what my eyes are blind to. Catch a ride on the cerebral train, it's locamotive strong but the ekg's are faint.

Hey, hey, hey, the pill is popped now won't you ride it.
Hey, hey, hey, the pill is popped now don't you fight it.

Drive in Movie Theater

Written By: Understory Project (Evan Foster)

If a dogged worlds choices
where already written in the rock,
which curious sheep
would depart from the flock?
If we could slide a qaurter in
and see our lives through a looking glass,
Could you connect a string from your present to the past?

A unique sense of pride trickles slowly down the vail
Beating lightly on these cascading tendencies
When in the light it heeds your selections and draws your connections.

If some catty cavalier came and ended the anxious day,
What funs this small minded road when it only goes one way?
If all our lives were being screened in a drive in movie theater,
What the point of taking a risk or questioning life when the answers already sure?

A unique sense of pride trickles slowly down the vail
Beating lightly on these cascading tendencies
When in the light it heeds your selections and draws your connections.

And when I feel something short of the trueth.
Life, its something beautiful.
when your strip naked life, it destroys something beautiful, something beautiful.

Carousels

Written By: Understory Project (Evan Foster)

We all ride our own carousels
and watch the hourglass fill
Weaving schemes like cats cradles
trying to make sense of all we dont understand

Get off your carousel
let them free
Get off your carousel

We all flock to fill the fleeting footprints
and expand our temple
slab by slab
for a lifetime we vie
the minds only worth what inside
your merely given the bag

Get off your carousel
let them be
Get off your carousel

Brick by brick
Click by click
potentials stopwatch recedes with time
Once alive dreams are released in the dark
We're all so stranded the carousel's line.
Once alive dreams are released in the dark
We're all so stranded in the carousel's line.
Once alive dreams are released in the dark
We're all so stranded in the carousel's line.

Earth From Above

Written By: Evan Foster

When your thinking we could of had another way, there was no other way. If you want to climb up into our past, i'd better steady the ladder. Because things we promised never would shatter, fell off the table on us. I just can't put these pieces together again, i'm out of glue and my heart is expressionless.

I'm looking down at the earth from above. A man in jeopardy of his love. 10,000 doves come and pick him up. Im just looking down at the earth from above.

If you wanna dive down into our past, i'll guide while you swim. But i can only hold your arm for so long, the water pulls us apart. The more i fight it, the more i hate it, the more i want to swim you again.

I'm looking down at the earth from above. A man in jeopardy of his love. 10,000 doves come and pick him up. Im just looking down at the earth from above.
