"Collection of Articles from the Songsmith"

Megan Barnes 2008
Megan Barnes was joined next on stage by Justin Deanes who played most of her backing guitar. Her first song was “Crystal Ball”, which featured some great guitar from Justin. The song featured moody vocals that set the scene as it gazed out on the future. Some great vocal rift’s that displayed Megan’s prowess help add flavor to the song’s mix. “Scene Of the Crime” has Strong hooks that arrest the listener. The vocal melodies have flavored twists in a Cranberries like song sorbet. This will be an interesting one when it is recorded! Megan then picked up her new Maton guitar for “Never Without”. For some reason when Megan plays herself on the guitar the songs seem
to be more emotive and fulfilling. Even Fergusson remarked on this phenomena. So Megan. get your chords a humming! “Never Without” had country nuances, but the song had its own deep heart. The harmonies with Justin worked well. “Five Days” had a brilliant melody with superb guitar behind it. Really worked well. The last song of the set showed Megan’s fluid flowing vocal style well in a dynamic song that as ably assisted by Justin’s guitar lines. A great set Megan, good to hear you singing so well especially your own great compositions.
The duo of Megan Barnes & ,lustin Denes both on acoustic guitars took to the stage, writes Brian Ralston, works beautifully as an acoustic number but I hear a big studio production in my head.. Superb melody and lovely progressions and inventions in Justin’s guitar playing. Megan’s voice is perfect for this song. “Crvstal Ball” displays lovely tight harmonies from Justin and great use of both guitars with Megan’s strumming giving Just in the chance to add some lovely picking. Stars was a haunting ballad, delightful picking behind superbly expressive vocals. Megan’s voice is just as great in low or upper register. Great songwriting and performance. ‘Scene of the Crime” is one where Megan’s additional guitar adds further dimension to an already great song. a powerful song with excellent lvricalitv.‘ Never Without’ features a hook to die for with superb harmonies. A brilliant set from
Megan and Justin!
Megan Barnes and Justin Deanes were the next SSA act on the bill and she started with “Never Without “. Peter Wrote that Megan had a great voice and with beautiful singing. What a transformation! Megan built drama into her performance, I’ll walk with you right through the rest of our days” The song has a great chorus. Megan is a beautiful lady who can really sing and she has crafted a great song to showcase her talent. “Scene Of The Crime” features Megan’s sexy, husky voice. Great rhythms. good harmonies in a superb song. Megan is elegant and in control of her stage space. A well structured song, with such a catchy chorus. “What Can I Do When I Love You”, oh so pretty!
