Bio

It all started at the ruined attic of a model agency, left from the former Soviet Union. There, along with a bunch of young artists and musicians, two childhood friends started renting a room. Soon their songs demanded a rhythm group and they invited a young and promising drummer. A few months later the only woman-bassist in the country joined the band. Unformal debuted in October 2001, at the Azerbaijan Rock Award Competition, organized by the Producing Center B.I.C. They were recognized “the best band of the year” and awarded a “Golden Crescent”. In May 2003 Unformal was invited to play at the festival in Georgia and give and interview for the Georgian music TV channel “Maestro”. In 2003 Unformal participated in the TV show that was followed up by the performance tour in Azerbaijan. The last concert with that show-program was held in October 2003 on the main stage of Azerbaijan “Heydar Aliev’s Palace”. During 2004-2005 Unformal organized eleven festivals, recorded a demo-album “Unformal”, celebrated its fifth anniversary with a solo concert, wrote and rehearsed new songs for the upcoming album. At the same time Farida (bass) launched her side project with her conservatory friends – the girl’s rock band “W/Omen”. Soon Unformal recorded an experimental duet with the singer of “W/Omen” – Delia, which turned out a real success and in 2006 she joined Unformal. In October 2006 renewed Unformal gives a solo concert with new band members and new musical concept. Sudden changes from hard to more alternative music are welcomed by the fans. “Ilk Suigest” becomes one of the best concerts the band ever performed, and the beginning of new era in the history of Unformal. Specially invited to the event, Vitaliy Klimov, an Ukraine producer, signed a contract with Unformal, and two months later (in December) the band recorded the single “Sonsuz Yol” with Kiev’s Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of a Serbian musician, the piano player of the Ukrainian band “Ocean Elzi” – Milosh Yelich. In April 2007 Unformal performed at the presentation of “Sirat Körpüsü”. The soundtrack to the movie contains 6 songs, written by Unformal. During three months after the premier, the video for the main song of the soundtrack (“Sonsuz Yol”) kept its position among the top 3 in the top 10 rock videos on the local channel - ITV. In July and August this video was in the hot rotation on the M1 - Ukrainian music TV channel. In October 2007 Unformal was invited by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan to participate in a competition for the Eurovision Contest. Unformal was one of the three nominees left after three tours, and took the 2nd place at the National Final Tour held in Baku on February 2, 2008. At the present moment Unformal is working on the debut LP album and is planning to shoot a video for the main track of the album. ...
