Bio

Serendipity and music couldn't form a more perfect Union.

The founding fathers of the band, Union came together in early spring 2007 when, by happenstance, an ordinary jam session turned into the birth of an undeniably original and arguably epic sound.

This unlikely hybrid of folk and rock was born in Athens, Ga., where music is a god and bands such as REM and Widespread Panic took root.

Ted Franklin, lead singer and lyricist of Union combined his rich poeticism and love for vintage folk with Nathan Thompson's (lead guitarist) bend for post-rock that instigated one of the warmest and cursive progressive sounds to grace modern folk music.

The members of Union, all students at the University of Georgia, have been playing music since grade school. And their original sound is solidly supported by their foundation in the fundamentals of music.

Franklin who is classically trained in music and voice, blends his unique and captivating vocals with refreshingly original drum beats by Andrew Parker, exploratory bass guitar by Andrew Terrell (who is also a cellist), and is complimented by Nathan Thompson's lush soundscapes. Franklin's profound lyrics come packaged in simple, thought-provoking language savoring strongly of Feist. This sound of "progressive rock with a southern swagger" leaves listeners enlightened and wanting for more.

Already having played and frequented some of Athens' most prominent venues including the 40 Watt club where bands such as Wilco, Interpol, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and many others. Union is a quickly up-and-coming band, with a wide appeal looking to spread their music to all who enjoy rock and folk.
