"Benjamin"

"This is jazzy-electronica-pop heaven. This track bubbles along with an easy groove and fun lyrics. Jeni Ivey's vocals are a treat to listen to and Timo Ceniceros keeps the track percolating with interesting sounds and arrangements."

""Shaping""

Resonating with soothing ambient overtones, tantric break-beat basslines and the extraordinary vocal talents of Jeni Ivey, I found this album to be incredibly lucid and original. Vaguely reminiscent of Massive Attack, Cirrus and a bit of the Supreme Beings of Leisure, this album breathes new life into what I was beginning to call a rather complacently unoriginal genre. My already high expectations of this album were greatly exceeded, and I already recommend this cd to all of my collegues and friends. I can hardly wait to add another UBS album to my collection. - DJ Void

United By Sound is the music of Jeni Ivey and TMO Their music deconstructs distinctions like live vs. electronic and producer vs. artist, combining elements of electro, dancehall, rock, dub, and pop. Their method is simple; a tireless love for exploring melody, beats, harmony, bass, and sonic texture. As much a production team as a duo of artists and songwriters, United By Sound is able to bring a raw D.I.Y spirit to grade A music production. The result is music that is conceived in a B-Boy -B-Girl ('fuck it, were doing our thing')stance, while transcending into the rich, polytextural, uber-sexy, genre bending sound they call home. UBS cannot however separate their music from their time, as they find themselves living in the middle of a decomposing American dream. "There is so much gluttony in our pop culture that it is impossible to not speak to it, especially when your a product of the industry," Tmo replies when discussing the pop/political irony that lives in their lyrics. "What we don't want is to be preachy about it though. We just want to help expose the natural absurdity and humor of it all. People have to make up their own minds, and we all need to enjoy music, and have a good time without being told what to think whether it's an artist or Clear Channel telling you."

Tmo and Jeni began working together in 2001, with Jeni casually giving Tmo vocal samples for his productions. This quickly evolved into full song remixes, and two years later Tmo independently released the album ‘Shaping’ under the United By Sound moniker. After performing the material live at the CD release concert, they enjoyed it so much that they decided to join forces to explore the possibilities of music that they could create together. UBS continued to hone their sound by performing shows across the west coast and have since set up a studio in San Francisco and spent the last year and half writing and producing new music. “We are very excited and proud of this work, as it has both of our hearts and souls fully invested in it.”
Despite the fact that United By Sound had abandoned the old material so quickly after the release of ‘Shaping’ the album has taken on a life of its own. With zero promotion, ‘Shaping’ has been purchased worldwide in Australia, Japan, Europe, and cities all across the United States, and met with much acclaim. At the young ages of 23 and 21, UBS brings fresh energy to their genre, and promises their fans a long career of evolving music.
