From “Candy Girl”s to a City of God
Hip hop artist Universal spreads his vision—and talent—with a new single and upcoming album

New York, NY, April 27 2010—Hip-hop artist/ rapper Universal has the swagger of 50 Cent and Jay-Z, the smooth rhymes of Kanye West, and the energy of Busta Rhymes and Lil’ Wayne…but his talent as a songwriter and performer is all his own. Creating music for “real street soldiers and generals,” for those who have less but keep up the fight, Universal demands attention with his recently released single and mixtape album, as well as his upcoming CD City of God.

Universal began his career as a rapper by performing late nights at the world-famous Apollo theater in Harlem, NY, and he quickly grabbed the attention of industry bigwigs and fans alike. Mickey Bentson, owner of Pay Up Management/ Da Squad Management and current manager for Ice-T and Fat Joe, told Universal “you’ve got something really special.” Radio stations including Crescent City Radio in New Orleans, KFOU St. Louis, Chicago’s number one radio network Madd Radio, New York University’s WNYU, KDUB FM, online station MUSZIK4ALL, JC Internet Indie Radio, and WACCradio.org have all played Universal’s tunes. The rapper’s music is also currently spinning on Jango.com. As for his live performances, Universal has taken part in several indie tours and opened for veterans like The Notorious B.I.G., ODB, and Ruff Ryders. He’s also set to perform at an industry showcase for Bad Boy Entertainment and Atlantic Records in Brooklyn, New York.

Universal writes all of his own music and song lyrics, and he describes his style as “international gangsta muzic.” His voice can be reminiscent of Freeway, and his intensity rivals Jadakiss and Styles P, but he has a unique flavor all his own. Universal’s songs focuses on the everyday struggles of real people, of the “street soldiers,” the “real cats locked down in the p-now,” the single mothers and children who make do on less. With his music, Universal speaks to and for the people, spreading his message that “money don’t make us” and “as a unit we can make a change.”

Universal has released a single, “Candy Girl,” available at www.myspace.com/rawfootageentertainment and www.audiolife/store/universal, as well as a mixtape album, Sin City, available at www.cdbaby.com/universalmusic. His upcoming album City of God will debut in Spring 2010; in the meantime, Universal is promoting “Candy Girl” and Sin City while continuing to tour regularly. He plans to play Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, San Antonio, Texas, and Brooklyn, New York in the near future. Attending more music industry showcases and licensing music for independent films round out Universal’s current goals.
