Usually, when tourists venture below Times Square to 40th Street, they're seeking solace from the overwhelming crush of people—stragglers, laden down with bags from the M&M store and crumpled Broadway playbills, crash exhaustedly in the air-conditioned fast-food joints on Seventh Avenue. But last Sunday and Monday, crowds gathered excitedly in that area and gravitated to the remarkable noise emanating from a makeshift tent pitched right outside of H&R Block. - New York Village Voice - Jonah Bromwich

What has six arms, dense distortion, double-bass drumming, and a combined age of 35? The metal band Unlocking the Truth, who made their radio debut on Studio 360. The Brooklyn trio comprises 12-year-old guitarists Malcolm Brickhouse, 12-year-old bassist Alec Atkins, and 11-year-old drummer Jarad Dawkins. They are the youngest guests Kurt Andersen has interviewed on the program — and the slayingest. - Studio 360 with Kurt Anderson - WNYC Radio

This ain’t no play date. This ain’t no fooling around.
Three of the hottest rockers on the New York hardcore scene — guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, bassist Alec Atkins and drummer Jarad Dawkins — aren’t even out of middle school.
Yet the heavy metal trio, dubbed Unlocking the Truth has played the Apollo Theater, the Bitter End and bars all over the city. - NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Unlocking the Truth have got to be the freshest new band on New York's heavy metal scene - just don't ask to hear their early work... they haven't written it all yet.
That's because guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, drummer Jarad Dawkins and bassist Alec Atkins are all in the sixth grade.
But despite their tender years, the trio, from Brooklyn's East Flatbush, are already better versed than most on the fine art of head-banging and have taken the city by storm.

Even if you've already seen sixth-grade metal band Unlocking The Truth rocking out in New York's Times Square or Apollo Theater, it's worth watching this beautiful new video, in which they open up about their private lives.

"Since I wear nail polish, which is not normal ... people bother me about it," says band member Malcolm Brickhouse, who hails from the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y. "At times it offends me, at times it doesn't. So I just write songs about it." - Huffington Post Arts & Culture

Last Thursday I took the L train to the end of the line and caught up with Unlocking the Truth, a heavy metal trio composed of three sixth graders, Malcolm Brickhouse, Jarad Dawkins and Alec Atkins. We were first made aware of these guys after we saw some of their videos on YouTube, which show the trio absolutely destroying Times Square. Some people have referred to them as "childcore," but those people probably can't play music well enough to appreciate the epic crushiness these 11-year-olds pump out. These guys play seriously brutal metalcore, and they're better than whatever sixth grade band you were in. This is what we're talking about: - http://noisey.vice.com/

Unlocking the Truth is a young heavy metal/hard rock band from Brooklyn, New York, who write and create their own lyrics and music. The band members are Malcolm Brickhouse (electric guitar), Jarad Dawkins (drums) and Alec Atkins (new bassist). Malcolm and Jarad formed their first band Tears of Blood in 2007. The boys are in the 6th grade and they’re pretty good students too.

Unlocking the Truth competed at Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater (aka Tears of Blood / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_3k8BhT5cI) and made it to the Show-Off Round and have been performing at festivals around New York City, as well as in Times Square. Unlocking the Truth completed their upcoming CDs: Madness, featuring the singles: Madness, Start the Game and Take Control, as well as the CD, Paranoid, featuring the singles: Paranoid and Until the End.
