UnTied mixes elements of Pearl Jam, 311, Queensrÿche, Black Sabbath, Korn, and The Police into its own original, powerful rock. UnTied fuses this variety of influences into a unique sound while maintaining a straight-ahead hard rock edge. With hook-driven melodies and mature instrumentalism, this Philly-bred band writes memorable songs with challenging lyrics that kick around in your head for days after a show.

UnTied began as a group of friends jamming at the University of Pennsylvania. The founding members included current bassist, Mad Dawg, and drummer, Nitin. These two assembled a makeshift band with the then lofty dream of one day playing their original music at Penn’s Spring Fling Festival. After the addition of passionate vocalist and classmate, Ken, things fell into place and the band Undertow was born. For a couple years, Undertow played a mix of original songs and covers in sporadic local shows and ultimately Spring Fling.

After the departure of Undertow’s original guitarist, the band crossed paths with an energetic guitarist named Kilo. Kilo brought significant performance experience and a new attitude to the group. With Kilo on guitars Undertow developed a heavier, more defined sound. Undertow became Pier 34 and the desire to focus more effort into creating original music and improving the stage show. Over the next two years, the band built up a solid reputation and fan base by continually playing shows in NYC and throughout the Philadelphia area. During this time the band fine-tuned its songwriting and performances.

After going through a final name change to UnTied, the band is now armed with an impressive arsenal of original songs and remains focused on delivering quality performances by feeding off the crowd and each other’s energies on stage.

Lyrics

Save You

Written By: Ken Collins

Started with a glance
then venturing a stare
watched her hunched in the corner booth

Started with a glance
then venturing a stare

Ashtray full
empty glasses
keeping to herself

Walked across the smoky room
eyed the chair beside her
I can smell the trace perfume
as I sit beside her

I've been watching you all night
I know something that you don't
I am here to save you
you don't seem to know
just how close it is to you right now
I am here to save you

Try to make her smile
can't penetrate her glare
could it be I'm leaning in too close?

Try to make her smile
can't penetrate her glare

Break her down
now she's smiling
even starts to laugh

Says she needs some company
just moved into town
ask her if she wants to leave
and she puts her tip down

I've been watching you all night
I know something that you don't
I am here to save you
you don't seem to know
just how close it is to you right now
I am here to save you

Fire

Written By: Ken Collins

shifting now from side to side
it's time to hop into our ride
sirens fill the trees with light
we follow them into the night

lot is full of disarray
in the wind the fire plays
flickering shadows on our eyes
collectively, we're hypnotized

by our feet fire water cools
we think the fire looks so cool
falling into humorous trance
then they opened up the ambulance

and when I saw his streaming tears
I knew it wasn't really funny anymore
and suddenly the licking flames
were taking little lives away again

Chorus:
make me whole again
I won't ask for nothing more
make me whole again
you'll see what I need it for
make me whole again
I'll scream, I'll cry
I'll show a little sympathy

guilty feeling fast suppressed
we sped away off towards some fest
till late at night we laugh and play
the fire a thousand miles away

waking up from bed next morn'
breakfast only real concern
argue plans for day ahead
but we sit and watch TV instead

on the news the story plays
five kids under six, they died that day
while jokes like breath rolled off our tongues
smoke had filled their little lungs

and when I saw their streaming tears
I knew it wasn't really funny anymore
and suddenly the licking flames
were taking little lives away again

Won't Leave Me

Written By: Ken Collins

Comes in the morning
knocks on my door
rub my eyes, am I awake?
twice before
I've been fooled twice before

Glance up from the table
pretend not to see
slow, downturned smile
she's laughing at me

She said she'd be free
she doesn't need me
she won't leave me alone

Ride home alone
think I can hear
voice in the crowd
no, it can't be

Turn out the lights
can't close my eyes
slow, rythmic release
her breathing

She said she'd be free
she doesn't need me
she won't leave me alone
She said she'd be free
she doesn't need me
she won't leave me alone

Could it be, I came to see
or is it just my eyes?
Could it be, I'm the one
who needs to be free

Tabula rasa ain't too much to ask for
break the chains
free your slave
that's all I ask for
make your point
walk away
just don't turn back now
last word is yours
don't come running back

She said she'd be free
she doesn't need me
she won't leave me alone
She said she'd be free
she doesn't need me
she won't leave me alone
