UnTied mixes elements of Pearl Jam, 311, Queensrÿche, Black Sabbath, Korn, and The Police into its own original, powerful rock. UnTied fuses this variety of influences into a unique sound while maintaining a straight-ahead hard rock edge. With hook-driven melodies and mature instrumentalism, this Philly-bred band writes memorable songs with challenging lyrics that kick around in your head for days after a show.
UnTied began as a group of friends jamming at the University of Pennsylvania. The founding members included current bassist, Mad Dawg, and drummer, Nitin. These two assembled a makeshift band with the then lofty dream of one day playing their original music at Penn’s Spring Fling Festival. After the addition of passionate vocalist and classmate, Ken, things fell into place and the band Undertow was born. For a couple years, Undertow played a mix of original songs and covers in sporadic local shows and ultimately Spring Fling.
After the departure of Undertow’s original guitarist, the band crossed paths with an energetic guitarist named Kilo. Kilo brought significant performance experience and a new attitude to the group. With Kilo on guitars Undertow developed a heavier, more defined sound. Undertow became Pier 34 and the desire to focus more effort into creating original music and improving the stage show. Over the next two years, the band built up a solid reputation and fan base by continually playing shows in NYC and throughout the Philadelphia area. During this time the band fine-tuned its songwriting and performances.
After going through a final name change to UnTied, the band is now armed with an impressive arsenal of original songs and remains focused on delivering quality performances by feeding off the crowd and each other’s energies on stage.
