"Up Down Go Machine @ MODE, Nottinghill"

Up Down Go Machine, an extended onstage family consisting of Sam Martin, Steve Plumb, and siblings Ria and Stephen Hallwood started out the evening. Up-tempo rock folk tunes such as Blame Game, and Two Swords rallied the crowd, with Shake It Up rabble rousing the audience into a lively call and response exchange. Up Down Go Machine’s sound was lavish, the dynamics were well explored and there was nothing musically extraneous. With nods to Fleetwood Mac and Jeff Buckley, each part played their own parts simply, with the overall sound as quite rich without being overdone. Catchy percussive elements added just that bit of rhythmic vibe that presented this acoustic-style show into something more interactive and energetic. - JEN KENT

Bio

Up Down Go Machine are a four piece outfit hailing from Wales, via Lincolnshire and Kent.
The band weave delicate folk melodies around their stripped back, acoustic guitar led sound, which is bolstered by the telepathic harmonising of siblings Stephen and Ria Hallwood.

With an outwardly lavish sound, the dynamics are well explored and there is nothing musically extraneous. Catchy percussive elements add just that bit of rhythmic vibe that propels this acoustic-style into something more interactive and energetic.

Their songs are unashamedly heartfelt and direct, with strong nods to Jeff Buckley and Ray LaMontagne, but never stray too far from their home grown, Celtic roots.
