An interview with Uptown Groove by INN

INN: Hi fellows, welcome to the interview
UG: Thanks for having us
INN: Let’s start by giving us your band lineup
UG: Well we have two Jims, a Craig and TBD. Jim Bencie plays drums, Jim Roberts is our lead guitar player and does some vocals. Craig alternates between the B3 organ and guitar and also does the majority of the lead vocals. TBD is our bass player culled from a list of jobbers. Jim Bencie says he can sing but no one has ever heard him...
INN: So what are your major influences and what do you like to play?
UG: Our major influences are , Albert King, BB King, Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa and Lawrence Welk. Nobody rocks a polka like Lawrence.
INN: Give us a sample of your song list?
UG: First we would like to say that almost all of our songs have the Uptown Groove feel and arrangement. We love to get into a groove.
A few of our favorites are:
"I Don’t Need No Doctor" by Ray Charles
"Get Out Of My Life Woman" by Albert King
"I’m So Broke" by Doug Macleod
"Black Coffee" is our most requested original.
"Been Hit (One-Two Punch)" is another popular original.
INN: What kind of people request your original songs?
UG: Mostly Craig... he wrote them
UG: We also have Never play list...
INN: What does that mean?
UG: Songs you will never hear us play, ever!
INN: Ok I give in, name a few
UG: We will never play the Chicken Dance, the Hokey Pokey or anything by the Jonas Bros.
INN: How did you guys get into the blues?
UG: First we were all born in Louisiana, or was that Memphis?, No wait the bayou...Actually I suppose it started out with our misspent youths, resulting in bad jobs, no money and consequently the blues. There are not a lot of Harvard types in blues bands.
INN: So are you guys big big drinkers?
UG: We only drink when it’s hot out but Jimmy keeps turning the heat up.
INN: So in essence what would define "the groove" you love so much?
UG: Songs that make you move, you groove into them, they tell a story but keep your feet tapping. Some make you smile or even laugh while others might make you melancholy. Here is a list of some of our many songs. We add to them regularly.
