Bio

Ever since Donovan Ernest was little, his father knew he was meant to grow up to be on the big stage. Donovan would grab anything that looked like a microphone and start pretending like he was hyping the crowd. That must be why his presence as the front man for Under The Rasta Influence (U.R.I) seems so fluent and natural. With their potent live show; U.R.I is able to captivate each crowd with their own unique vibes that emanate in the air on any given night.
For Donovan, the ideologies and thoughts that manifested the idea of living Under The Rasta Influence drew him to form U.R.I with skilled producer and drummer Rusty Mack, and bassist Sean Lewis at their native Purchase College to form the authentic and original reggae band.
With the college years going by, U.R.I was able to complete its positive sound with guitarist Tim Shipman, keyboardist Mike DeRosa, and cellist Taylor Cannizzaro. As a whole, the six-piece reggae band is young, fresh and straight up talented. U.R.I has been able to gain respect from the legendary DJ Squeeze along with Jamrock Magazine, as well as be featured in The Source Magazine this past April.
Each member of U.R.I brings something unique to the reggae band, forging a style and sound that is distinct and very much their own. Donovan’s infectious charisma and voice captivates crowds, and somewhere between the unique lead styling’s of Tim's guitar and the swagger of bassist Sean Lewis, U.R.I delivers an intense and energy-driven show that is unparalleled, and maintains a high level of musicianship.
U.R.I has opened for hip hop acts such as Drake, The Cool Kids, Brand Nubian, Dead Prez, Jadakiss, Styles P, The Beatnuts, Cassidy, and reggae acts Serani, Mr. Vegas, Norris Man, Luciano, Glen Adams, Milton Henry, and Everton Blender.
U.R.I is young, energetic and ready for the main stage- if you have ever seen them live, you know it too. “When it comes to potent live shows and smoking grooves, few bands are able to keep pace with Under The Rasta Influence.” (The Source April 09)
