'Terrifically Atmospheric' Telegraph

'One of the festival highlights of 2010' BBC Introducing Bristol

'fantastic' BBC Radio London

'Alongside Stornoway, my favourite act on the Avalon Cafe Stage in 2009 - great music; the crowds loved them. Surely only a matter of time until they are on Jools Holland.' Glastonbury Festival: Lisa Pickering, Avalon Stage

'Great Act - a stunning show - Urusen had the crowd in the palm of their hand from the very first number.' Larmer Tree Festival: James Shepard, Co-Director

'A breathtaking live experience…they have too many potential hits for any particular favourite to be cited. Seeing a band hold an audience like that, in the palm of their hands, you can't half help but think you've been spoilt seeing such a great band so close-up. And to see the band so obviously enjoy themselves is even better.' Plum Music
'Truly enjoyable…this band give you something a little extra - they had their audience captivated and whooping for more. Definitely a band to look out for in the year to come.' MusFlashTV

'Strong melodies and beautiful harmonies...Urusen make you want to put off what you had planned for the day, stay home and listen to the disc several more times - it's required listening. Go buy it.' ***** Certified Desert Island Disc - Wildy's World

‘A five-piece doing rather lovely things to folky instruments with excellent melodies and harmonies – that’ll do for me’ Gil Mills, Best of Myspace Issue 34, June 2008 - www.bestofmyspace.co.uk - Various

Urusen are one of the most exciting bands to emerge out of the UK alt-folk scene and are currently working on an album with producer Steve Osborne who has produced albums for Elbow, Doves, KT Tunstall, PJ Harvey. They have a publishing deal with Realworld and in 2010 performed at numerous festivals across the UK including Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Larmer Tree and 2000 Trees. Among their plaudits they have been selected as a highlight pick by the The Independent in their top ten gigs of the week and also described as 'Sweepingly memorable' by Metro and as 'Terrifically atmospheric' by the Telegraph.

Their music has been used for a national television advertising campaign, for national television and they were picked out by BBC Introducing (Bristol) as one of the highlights of the 2010 festival season.

Urusen was formed in the South West of England by cousins Peter Beatty (vocals and guitars) and Ben Please (vocals and guitar), who were then joined in London by Nick Ullmann (cello), Jay Darwish (bass) and Kieran Houston (drums). Since 2008 they have risen from grass roots into the UK indie folk scene and they hope to release a new album in 2011.

As well as acoustic and electric guitars, drums, cello and double bass, and an eclectic array of instruments such as harmonium, mbira, banjo and charango, rousing harmonies are woven into the band's modern folk-tinged pop arrangements. With a lyrical, story-telling signature, and a stirring delivery, you’ll be an eager companion on a captivating journey, wistful at times, undoubtedly spirited, but one you'll want to join them on again and again.
