Us and Them

Us and Them

BandRockClassic Rock

Biography

Us and Them sind eine Rockgruppe aus Baden-Württemberg.

Denn die Geschichte von „Us and Them“ begann am 13. August 1994.

Never in the red

Written By: Us and Them

never in the red

when I grew older I grew so much younger
and after the answers the questions then came
and getting much weaker made me so much stronger
and being real quiet made them call my name

I felt the fists I heard the bell
I wished that I was dead
I was in heaven was in hell
but never in the red

when I had spoken I started to listen
and when I had run I started to start
when I had found I started with missing
and after the brain I got back my heart

I felt the fists I heard the bell
I wished that I was dead
I was in heaven was in hell
but never in the red

so I’ll go on living and wait with my dying
them cowards die many times william s. wrote
I will hear the truth and I will hear the lying
but I will keep quiet and just take my notes

I felt the fists I heard the bell
I wished that I was dead
I was in heaven was in hell
but never in the red

Grey matters

Written By: Us and Them

grey matters

but grandpa did you not once tell me
that once there was this great big wall
that separated world and country
and you told me that it was real tall

but grandpa did you not once tell me
that them were bad and us were good
that they too saw us as their enemies
and would have killed us if they could

it’s hard to remember
grey matters, grey matters
it’s hard to forget
grey matters no more
so hard to remember
grey matters, grey matters
so hard to forget
grey matters what for

but grandpa did you not once tell me
that once a man could chose himself
he helped his friends and fought his enemies
left marx and jesus on the shelf

but grandpa did you not once tell me
that once a man could speak his mind
he called a bully just a bully
no need to becorrectly kind

it’s hard to remember
grey matters, grey matters
it’s hard to forget
grey matters no more
so hard to remember
grey matters, grey matters
so hard to forget
grey matters what for

and grandpa did you not once tell me
that politicians told no lies
they did their best to help their country
our soldiers died not far away

and grandpa did you not once tell me
there was a time when children played
they were not streamlined for the industry
they could find out what things they liked

it’s hard to remember
grey matters, grey matters
it’s hard to forget
grey matters no more
so hard to remember
grey matters, grey matters
so hard to forget
grey matters what for

Flying deep

Written By: Us and Them

flying deep

sitting on the river bank
one morning late in june
I saw two suns and one just sank
I heard the hedgehog’s tune
sitting on the river bank
one morning late in june

what is there
why is it there
and where then will it go
who is there
when is the time
and how I high will it grow

flying over space
I found no-one was there
I thought this godly human race
was getting too much care
flying over space
I found no-one was there

what is there
why is it there
and where then will it go
who is there
when is the time
and how I high will it grow

talking to the trees one day
with mot much left to say
they whished many miles away
and bade the water stay
talking to the trees one day
with mot much left to say

what is there
why is it there
and where then will it go
who is there
when is the time
and how I high will it grow

flying miles below the sea
with bottles and with fish
a genie raised her glass to me
and asked me for a wish
flying miles below the sea
with bottles and with fish

what is there
why is it there
and where then will it go
who is there
when is the time
and how I high will it grow

Life dies

Written By: Us and Them

life dies

what’s left to do the world has changed
you and your dreams so many times
time is the master in the end
you swim the stream only one time
the river changes day by day
and so do you

what’s left to see in this blue mist
the world’s become for everyone
that they don’t look behind the scenes
so many things so many thoughts
you see much better day by day
nobody cares

what’s left to say if you just see
the things you see in your own way
you’re bad they say see them away
you kill our happy harmony
you’re incorrect what they expect is just polite
a friendly lie

what’s left to dream when it all seems
so long ago you had your goals
but now you feel you past your poles
truth is the master in the end
of all that is you cannot bend reality
with your dreams

life dies
so many times
life dies

My old picture

Written By: Us and Them

my old picture

and again I take down my old picture
and use my brush another last time
add new colour to familiar old structure
to this mirror of this life of mine

there was this deep dark green I called big hope
the basis of my dreams
with forty shades from everything to nearly nope
it’s almost gone it seems

and again I take down my old picture
and use my brush another last time
add new colour to familiar old structure
to this mirror of this life of mine

this burning red I used to call big love
I never stopped to think
then I came down from way up high above
to find a mess of pink

and again I take down my old picture
and use my brush another last time
add new colour to familiar old structure
to this mirror of this life of mine

time made this true blue lose most of its shine
and yellow took command
a jealousy blocked head and heart of mine
I failed to understand

and again I take down my old picture
and use my brush another last time
add new colour to familiar old structure
to this mirror of this life of mine

this deep dark black it never made me moan
or looking for more white
I loved it well so bright and clear it shone

my black and white they were so well defined
as clear as night and day
I said what’s wrong and really right
and used no mix-up grey

Grey green wind

Written By: Us and Them

grey green wind

it’s green you said but then what green
the green of grass you say
what grass I said the summer’s green
or in the early may

the morning grass in early may
but wet or dusty dry
the hour when the seagull cries
obove the falling tide

why words do try and tell me
the things one cannot explain
what eyes and heart will not see
is coloured forever in vain

it’s white you said but then what white
the white of falling snow
at Christmas full or march too late
before the winter goes

it lies like linen on the ground
what linen I asked tell
the linen that’s for wedding bound
or for the last farewell

why words do try and tell me
the things one cannot explain
what eyes and heart will not see
is coloured forever in vain

it’s red you said but then what red
the red of love you say
what love I said the new love’s red
or love while hair turns grey

the only love that ever burns
still after every tear
or love that sparks and dies and turns
to clinging and to fears

why words do try and tell me
the things one cannot explain
what eyes and heart will not see
is coloured forever in vain

Just me

Written By: Us and Them

Just me

so you thought i would never make it down that cliff
with all those big rocks falling down
and this dark river roaring deep down in the mist
and all this cold darkness around

and you didn’t believe I would take this steep path
to that last spot of bright living green
and crawl past deep gaps on the slippery grass
to explore this inside of me

i could have cut another ear
been Jekyll or been hyde
another hunchback in a church
or doctor sigmund freud

so I jumped in landed in deep childhood fears
surrounded by unfinished dream
I almost drowned in deep lakes of never cried tears
and found life’s much more than it seems

so don’t be sad I am not mad
I sometimes am
I sometimes am
just me

and I tried to re-climb those big mountains of hope
that once were a part of myself
I got down on all four to cross that rocky slope
to the laughter I would put on the shelf

i could have cut another ear
been Jekyll or been hyde
another hunchback in a church
or doctor sigmund freud

i could have cut another ear
been Jekyll or been hyde
another hunchback in a church
or doctor sigmund freud

And if you know

Written By: Us and Them

and if you know

and if you know that butterflies have souls
and if you know your steps leave little holes
and if you know that trees don’t mind your walk
and if you know they listen when you talk

and if you hear the story of the wind
and if you hear it tell you where it’s been
and if you hear the grass cry when it’s cut
and if you hear in every end a but
you start to start

and if you see the night walk on the long
and if you see the darkness after dawn
and if you see the things you’ve never read
and if you see new life in all that’s dead

and if you hear the story of the wind
and if you hear it tell you where it’s been
and if you hear the grass cry when it’s cut
and if you hear in every end a but
you start to start

and if you dream that mountains feel your fears
and if you dream that rivers are their tears
and if you dream the closeness of the stars
and if you dream the things that really are

and if you hear the story of the wind
and if you hear it tell you where it’s been
and if you hear the grass cry when it’s cut
and if you hear in every end a but
you start to start

and if you sing your story on the lake
and if you sing to give back all you take
and if you sing the silence in your heart
and if you sing an end to find a start

and if you hear the story of the wind
and if you hear it tell you where it’s been
and if you hear the grass cry when it’s cut
and if you hear in every end a but
you start to start

Big fat yellow

Written By: Us and Them

big fat yellow

why sing all these lines to the strangers around you
why tell them your joy and your pain
whatever you don’t and whatever you do
this distance will always remain

and then there’s this big fat yellow
and a red that makes you blink
an orange soft and mellow
and blue turns into pink

why sing of the places and faces you love
old memories kept deep in a trunk
the sun he has left your sky up above
and the last of your stars has long sunk

and then there’s this big fat yellow
and a red that makes you blink
an orange soft and mellow
and blue turns into pink

why not carry your tears up to that rock
and return your soul to the night
why not offer your heart one last time on the block
when you suffer too much for the light

and then there’s this big fat yellow
and a red that makes you blink
an orange soft and mellow
and blue turns into pink

and then there’s this big fat yellow
and a red that makes you blink
an orange soft and mellow
and blue turns into pink

Broken stones

Written By: Us and Them

broken stones

they’re floating down the mountain creek
one day into the rhine
they cross the lake on streets so deep
the water makes them shine

then having found a bay to stay
to rest and gather most
the rising tide pulls them away
the river is their boss

broken stones they hit the ground
are pushed around
broken stones they almost drown
time wears them down

they never stay what they have been
the water turns them round
it makes them flat it makes them thin
then pieces fill the ground

broken stones they hit the ground
are pushed around
broken stones they almost drown
time wears them down

you go to work your same old track
they make give your best
you give a lot get nothing back
a rock grows in your chest

broken stones they hit the ground
are pushed around
broken stones they almost drown
time wears them down
