Useless Spaceman is a conglomerate of 4 decaying cowboys who play heartfelt, nihilistic rock music about love, loss, dysfunction, paranoia, and the pending colonisation of our solar system. Useless Spaceman sound as though they’ve entered the Matrix and left thoroughly more confused. The Melbourne based band formed in 2016, comprising of lead singer and guitarist Hawaiin national Michael Downes, lead guitarist Joshua Hicks, bassist Darcy Richardson and drummer Joseph Fernando. The band has gigged frequently and worked hard to establish a loyal fanbase of space cadets. They’re known for raucous, high-energy, theatrical live performances, and space themed jams that remind us all that despite all humankind’s advancements, we’re still pretty lousy at relationships. In 2018, Useless Spaceman released their Self-titled EP featuring the zany and infectious 7-minute single Theme from Useless Spaceman, a staple of their live sets and the precursor to their name. Members cite The Drones, Iggy Pop, Ball Park Music, Gang of Youths, and the Arctic Monkeys as influences.
