Ushaani

Ushaani is a 26 yr old up-and-coming artist raised in both
Harrisburg, PA and Dallas, TX. At 18 his gypsy soul drove him to
explore, and he ended up in Philadelphia, Dallas again, Atlanta,
Houston, NYC, then back to Harrisburg. After battling with years of
crippling depression (and spiritual oppression) that violently stole his
sense of possibility and sense of self, he has ventured back to NYC,
and is determined to use his harrowing life experiences to make a mark
in the music world.

Ushaani not only sings with a signature sultry timbre, but also
writes his own lyrics and produces his own beats. His song topics
primarily deal with sex, relationships and existential inner monologue.
Though his vocal style hearkens more closely to R&B, his beats are
tinged with electronic, jazzy and exotic instrumentation with a
cinematic feel. Even his image is dichotomous. He used to perform in
drag as a club stripper and burlesque dancer, and has been noted
throughout his life for being more "pretty" than "handsome". In a world
where gay rights and transsexuals make front page news, he knows it is
not a hindrance, and plays it up with confidence. It truly is hard to
put him into one category.

He is influenced by a variety of artists such as: Ella Fitzgerald,
Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Seal, Terence Trent D'Arby,
Fiona Apple, and contemporaries like Beyonce and Lana Del Rey. He also
receives inspiration from Arabic, Persian and Bollywood music, as well
as from from video game soundtracks. Additionally, he greatly admires
the work of film composers such as Eric Serra and Craig Armstrong.

He is working on his first EP now, and it will be titled "Jezebel
Spirit". There is, indeed, a spirit that lives in him, and he knows he
must release her through music. He hopes that by expressing his
vulnerability and speaking on the struggles he has encountered that it
will inspire others to release theirs and live more freely. His music is
sexy, smooth, eclectic and brutally honest.
