Imagine if Neil Young walked through the Doors and found Nirvana.

Biography

Uwawa began three years ago as a solo acoustic act. Now it represents three musicians who believe in life, spontaneity, and the idea that accidents are sometimes necessary. As a group Uwawa merges the sounds of influences ranging from folk to hard core, and then adds a touch of jazz, (thanks to percussionist Naoki Saeki). The mood is new, original and undoubtedly ready for mainstream success.

Between the three boys of Uwawa there is a drastic contrast of how, why, and when each of them individually found music.

Joshua Katris, (Born: 04-02-77 Duarte, CA; Instruments: Guitar/Lead Vocals) began teaching himself guitar at the age of 12. He moved to London, UK at the age of 19, and managed to survive by basking the tube stations throughout the West End. He admires the writings of the likes of Charles Bukowski and Henry Miller, and strives to reveal the same intensity and endurance in his lyrics as they did in their stories and poems.

Andrew Arini, (Born: 07-01-81 Queens, NY; Instruments: Bass Guitar/Backup Vocals) has performed over 100 shows, in his 9 years in music. Through his experiences, he has become proficient with drums, bass, and guitar. Along with writing and performing in Uwawa, the 22 year old now owns 6x12 studios in Queens, NY where he operates as a studio engineer and producer.

Finally, Naoki Saeki, (Born: 09-02-78 Kobe, Japan; Instruments: Drums/Percussion).
Both Lewis Nash and Kenny Washington have taught Saeki. He graduated Berklee College of Music in 2002 and moved to NYC. Saeki played with various jazz bands until the formation of Uwawa, which has become a priority for the progression of his musical career. Saeki is also supported by ‘Pork Pie Percussion’.

As Uwawa becomes a more prominent name among the musical community, the boys of Uwawa keep their heads on straight and their foot on the pedal. Making sure that everyone that hears their songs remembers their name.

Lyrics

Blue Fish

Written By: J.Katris

Sometimes I get it right
When you’re not meaning much to me
Sometimes I cannonball across your field of vision
Just to see if you get it right
When I can’t quite understand
These games we play down beneath the undertide
And it’s safe to say
That I’m the king of everything
And it’s safe to say
I losing my control

And they don’t really want me
To come back here anymore
And they don’t really think it’s right
To mix myself with others
But I try and I try
I try

Sometimes I feel inside
That I can’t quite express myself
And sometimes I see the change
That knocks me off my pedestal
And I wanna get myself together
I’m the new kid again
Standing on the sidelines
Pretend it’s true
Pretend that you all knew me when

And what can I say
I forgot the rules
And what should I say
When I’m talking to you
Well I don’t know
And I can’t say

These games we play
Down beneath the undertide
And it’s safe to say
That I’m the king of everything

She's Waiting

Written By: J.Katris

And I will never understand these things
You and I don’t get along, but no one gets along all the time babe
So cauterize me
So I can understand these pictures

Maybe I should just go home and sing along
To kill this criminal who’s hurting my friends
And baby I don’t need your help to celebrate this parade
Cause I feel like I’m falling down
And I feel like I’m falling through
Just to realize
That we don’t care about you

She’s waiting
She don’t care about me
When these bombs start falling
And I’ll tell you
Love gets so cold
When you start coming down
And she’s waiting
She’s got it coming around
And she’s waiting
On the up side
And I can’t explain it
Why she keeps me around
And I can’t explain it
On the way down

Maybe I can come back home this Saturday
To fix my decision, my action, my guarantee
And maybe something’s are better left unsaid
And maybe sometimes we don’t quite get along
And maybe you and I don’t see things eye to eye
And maybe you love me more than I love you

She’s waiting
She don’t care about me
When these bombs start falling
And I’ll tell you
Love gets so cold
When you start coming down
And she’s waiting
She’s got it coming around
And she’s waiting
On the up side
And I can’t explain it
Why she keeps me around
And I can’t explain it
On the way down

Monotone Baby

Written By: J.Katris

You’ve got angels in your hair
That makes me understand
That you and me don’t feel the pain
Like other people can
Can I tell you all of my flattery
And give you my honey
And would you lie to me in the morning
To make me feel like a man
To make me feel like a man

Can you save me
Monotone baby
And can you walk away from me
In the middle of the night
And can you run away from here
Run away baby, run away baby, run away baby

Should I follow you away
And give it up baby
Should I waste my own religion
To make you understand
That we don’t feel like waiting around
But other people can
And we don’t take to nice to giving up
So don’t give up

Can you save me
Monotone baby
And can you walk away from me
In the middle of the night
And can you run away from here
Run away baby

You’ve got angels in your hair
That makes me understand
That you and me don’t feel the pain
Like other people can
And I want you more than anything
Monotone baby
You take me higher than anything
Run away…

And I wait up, but you’re not home
And I don’t care about, the little things that I say wrong
I feel like I am falling down sometimes when I see you
I wanna live a better life, but I can’t make up my mind
