"Hauntingly Cool and Catchy Music"

You'll be instantly hooked. The music of Uwawa projects itself with an air of exuberance but manages to surround itself with an aura laced with the morose. One of the reasons for this is compassionate voice of front man Joshua Katris, who manages to keep an element of acrimony in his lyrics. Most evident of this is their somber love song "She's Waiting" which finds itself exploding from tranquility towards a dynamic denouement. Other notable tracks include "Monotone Baby"-a rythmic and melodic number bound to make an audience move thanks to drummer Naoki and bassist Andrew, and the very halycon and heartfelt "Ratta Tat Tat". Uwawa's music leaves the listener hungry for more and eager to see what's next for this blooming NY band. - Hunter College Radio - Scayne

Bio

Uwawa began three years ago as a solo acoustic act. Now it represents three musicians who believe in life, spontaneity, and the idea that accidents are sometimes necessary. As a group Uwawa merges the sounds of influences ranging from folk to hard core, and then adds a touch of jazz, (thanks to percussionist Naoki Saeki). The mood is new, original and undoubtedly ready for mainstream success.

Between the three boys of Uwawa there is a drastic contrast of how, why, and when each of them individually found music.

Joshua Katris, (Born: 04-02-77 Duarte, CA; Instruments: Guitar/Lead Vocals) began teaching himself guitar at the age of 12. He moved to London, UK at the age of 19, and managed to survive by basking the tube stations throughout the West End. He admires the writings of the likes of Charles Bukowski and Henry Miller, and strives to reveal the same intensity and endurance in his lyrics as they did in their stories and poems.

Andrew Arini, (Born: 07-01-81 Queens, NY; Instruments: Bass Guitar/Backup Vocals) has performed over 100 shows, in his 9 years in music. Through his experiences, he has become proficient with drums, bass, and guitar. Along with writing and performing in Uwawa, the 22 year old now owns 6x12 studios in Queens, NY where he operates as a studio engineer and producer.

Finally, Naoki Saeki, (Born: 09-02-78 Kobe, Japan; Instruments: Drums/Percussion).
Both Lewis Nash and Kenny Washington have taught Saeki. He graduated Berklee College of Music in 2002 and moved to NYC. Saeki played with various jazz bands until the formation of Uwawa, which has become a priority for the progression of his musical career. Saeki is also supported by ‘Pork Pie Percussion’.

As Uwawa becomes a more prominent name among the musical community, the boys of Uwawa keep their heads on straight and their foot on the pedal. Making sure that everyone that hears their songs remembers their name.
