"VaBanG! is here!"

VaBanG! is a uniquely bi-coastal dance company founded in 2007 by Jessie Feller and Julia Sabangan. Bio

VaBang! is a bi-coastal dance company.

VaBang! is one of the first companies that brings together both coasts’ cultures, music and talents. While many companies regularly tour both coasts, no other company is born out of both coasts.

VaBang! is directed by two women, an absolute rarity in a field whose current major directors/choreographers are males. Moreover, Feller and Sabangan come from very distinct and different backgrounds. They marry these backgrounds to create a truly diverse and dual Directorship. Sabangan is the daughter of Filippino immigrants, who now make their home in the Bronx. Feller’s father was raised by a Jewish family in Queens, while her mother was raised Irish Catholic in Keokuk, Iowa. By creating and dancing in partnership, Feller and Sabangan bring these seemingly disparate worlds together, thereby embodying their own mission statement.

VaBang!’s founders approach their work from an intellectual starting point. They create works that are thought-provoking, rather than purely spectacular. Their pieces have strong messages that translate across cultures and to many different demographics. This directly speaks to their mission statement of soliciting a sense of global community and common experience.

In VaBang!’s current stage, the company is fresh and unencumbered by convention. It has no established convention, thereby making the possibilities of creation countless. VaBang! uses their youth as an asset; it allows the company to respond to the cultural and artistic trends that arise every day. VaBang! enters the dance community knowing that it is at a time when boundaries are being pushed. They intend to push even further.

VaBang! exists to fuse categories and transcend conventional ways of thinking.
